Is the trim ring removable? Not a big fan of externally mounting HU in japanese cars.

yes it is... i wanted the unit to come out like that (and make use of the trim) more or less because the screen does NOT touch the air vents or anything behind it.

u could probably mount it flush to the dash but then it definetely WOULD be able to hit whatever is behind it when u tilt the angle up.

who knows.. maybe one day ill get bored and mount it flush, but its fine the way it is.

hey vanilla sky,

Just wondering if you figured out how to play dvds while driving. Like someone said, just ground the line that you hooked up to the ebrake. The line is long so its not a problem to find a good spot. I have the same exact radio in my wrx and love it. Pretty funny when people drive past you looking into your car to see if you really are watching a movie.

did this DVD player require the "master brain unit" or whatever that seperate thing is? I am also looking at getting the avh-p6500 or 7" DVD/CD player, and i already have a pioneer DEH-P9500mp receiver, i either want to replace that, or run both together. I just want to know if the "master brain unit" is needed if i already have a new pionneer HU??

actually i was looking at the AVX-p7000 dvd unit, i seen em for like $599, and it says it connects to any newer pioneer HU, or somethin like that, but in some auctions it says that the brain is needed...any input on this will be greatly appreciated

Ok you have inspired me!, That is nice, I just purchased the Clarion VRX935VD which is a similar unit but it is a touch screen LCD. I am off to find a harness, did you just use a lancer harnes for the install? I am gessing so because I don't want to splice unless I have too.

Hey GTVEVO, that unit looks nice. Let us know where or who makes a harness for it. I agree splicing wires isnt fun.

blacklancer,

the P6500 comes with a "hide away" unit which has the inputs for the antenna, external video 1, external video 2 and the backup camera option (way cool, i found a sony waterproof B/W camera for 45 bucks...i think i can manage that!)

no seperate components (other than hide away, pictured below) are needed for this HU to work.

that AVX-p7000 looks like it needs a reciever of some sort, i'd just go for one of the newer DVD head units (goin for 1000 or more) because it's got everything you need in one pack

QatR,

i was in the market for DVD capable HU with motor screen ONLY. i have been saving for something like this for a while, and i wanted a bad *** HU with built in video.

i had considered clarion (7") and kenwood (6.5").. but i ultimitely chose the pioneer because of price, features, expandability, and looks.. the pioneed P7500 is awesome, and has an extra half inch of screen size. but the extra 400-500 bucks wasnt worth it to me. (i believe it has a extra feature or two on top of the .5" difference)

GTVEVO,

nice choice! let us know how everything works out. mind you, any new model mitusbishi harness should work. got mine from crutchfield. i couldnt have installed this thing myself if it wasnt for the harness. great little component

(also, my P6500 is a touch screen too)

the wire comming out of this unit is the reverse gear signal wire... detects car in reverse and puts video up on screen automatically

Good info Vanillasky!

That back-up camera option sounds like its going to be the envy of all your buddies. Please keep us posted on that if you ever get it installed. BTW, I was looking at Alpine and their screens are just insane, 400% more pixels than everything else!!! But, do you really think that the difference is notable? I defenately agree with you about the looks of the pioneer, its the cleanest looking HU out there.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14959 on order... i found a decent place to mount it under the rear bumper. i'll need to rig up a little something but it will work out fine (hopefully!) btw this is 1 inch diameter by 3 inches..

there is a color version of this camera also available... for like 50 bucks more, i think. (plus it's 1 inch longer, i want compact!)

as for the pioneer screen... looks fine to me, not the greatest picture in the world but it gets the job done juuuuust fine

I had this on my old car http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3036578631 I was always hitting the thing at the top of parking spaces and messing up my body kit so with this I could pull all the way in and know just when to stop without cracking my bumper

Ok, The do make a wire plug kit for the EVO, it is the same as the Lancer and it hasn't change since 95 from what I can tell. It is completely Plug and play on the stock side. I was able to take the wires from the plug kit and match them up completely to my DVD Unit except for the ground wire. I had to ground the system to one of the bolts in the Din area and this worked out fine. You do have to use the stock brackets from the CD Player, they don't make a specific Hardware kit because the brackets seem to fit pretty much everything. FYI they are a B!tch to get off the stock unit. I mounted the "Brain" basically and Amp/Source unit in the glove box and it is working out well.
