Pioneer AVH-P6500DVD...

$1065 (after shipping) from Barney's Electronics on eBay...
(yes i got a reciept, warranty is there!)

Plays just about every type of media... DVD, CD, VCD, MP3, home mades..

Detachable face, YES.. the silver portion w/the rotary knob and joystick comes off. a little red light blinks when its off..

I used a crutchfield wire harness, which was color coded the same as the pioneer HU wires (how convenient)..

Soldered and taped (should have used the shrink tube, o well)..

Used factory mount brackets from stocker HU.

I had help from a neighbor to make custom spacers to bring the HU out so that the supplied frame was able to fit.. otherwise it was either WAY to far out

I THINK it might be possible to mount it so that it's flush with the dash, but i decided it was best if I had it popping out a bit.. so that when the screen is up it does NOT hit anything at the maximum UP angle.

expect to make (4) spacers at 5/16 plus minus.. it's best to measure for yourself JUST INCASE!

otherwise its a clean install.. parking wire needs tapping for DVD other video (i learn u can click the brake up once without it actually engagine to view video while driving.. not safe dont recommend!)

this HU comes with a "hide away unit" which has inputs for video 1, 2, and backup camera... the hide away also has the antenna wire, so its neccessary for the install (i read that the antenna is needed for pioneers to work..).. this little unit fits right behind the shifter unit.. directly under the cubby hole (in the trim, not the actual cubby hole). hope that makes sense.

very nice I have the AVH-P6400 and the SDV-P7 sitting on the floor waiting to go into the lancer sometime next week hopefully, another work around for the parking brake sensor is to just ground it out.

also for other people if you buy on ebay sometimes they don't accept the warranty unless it was sold by an authorized dealer.

Did you have to install a seperate DVD player to play the DVD movies on the screen.

Ground it out, huh? could you fill me in on how to do this? id love for the video to work without clicking the hand brake

edit: VA_LANCER_RACER you've got PM

....

just read my first post, it has answers to your comments/questions.

for 1 g, you cant complain with this unit. Pioneer's site MSRP for this is $1,900

minus the time to fabricate custom spacers, the install time should be no more than 1 hour. Harness hookup + in car install (removal of trim, placement, wire tucking, etc...)

I asked this question on the sounddomain forums and this is what everybody was telling me. I haven't had my system installed yet so can't be 100% sure but I got about 10 posts saying the same thing. They weren't to specific, they all just said to ground it out. So I assume any ground will work, or the ground on the sensor maybe? If you do try grounding it please confirm. Thanks
