getting rid of orange reflector in headlights!

so, anyone have thoughts/experience taking out the orange piece in the headlights?

i read about the oven method on nasioc

but it looks as if the orange piece is clipped in somehow.. not glued. anyone know?

i think the car would look SO much better without the orange.

well, if it's like the Galant housing, you would have to pry it out of the clips with a screwdriver, then take a needle nose pliers cut it up and then empty the broken shards from the inside...

not easy, and very hard process IMO...

either that or you may want to just open up the headlamps and go at it that way, but i wouldn't want to open mine...

The oven method is used only to loosen the sealer that seals on the clear lense, so you can pull it off and actually get in there. If you read a little further into those posts on NASIOC, they still need to pry and scrape to remove the orange too.

use a heat gun or hairdryer to melt the edges of the headlight, thats what I did on my galant, not how well this will work on the evo though

I hate the orange reflector when you use it at night as a parking light so I did change it. I switched the wire and made the orange reflector as my turn signal and change the amber bulb to a clear bulb on the old turn signal and made it my parking light. No more amber parking lights.

You should check the S2000 boards on how they do theirs. They have the same style reflectors in their headlamps as well and they have a system of removing it and making it clear. I was at a big S2000 meet a few months ago and they were all doing it--which now I had paid more attention.

I have a WRX and I have done the healight mod.

The orange cover just pulls off really easy no scraping to be done. All you have to do is heat up the out side and then pry the cover apart then pull out then reverse it iis really easy. If I get a EVO I will try it but I may also try paint part of the inside black.

I switched the wire and made the orange reflector as my turn signal and change the amber bulb to a clear bulb on the old turn signal and made it my parking light. In order to do this, you'll need to take off your front bumper first, then the headlights with all its bolts. Reach for the wiring harness that goes to the parking/turn signal lights. There should be 3 wires, I think black is the ground, you don't have to do anything with this wire, then you're gonna switch the 2 remaining wires. Use a black electrical tape after connecting the 2 wires. Buy a clear bulb exactly the same as the turn signal bulb and put that clear bulb in. After that, put everything back and you got your self a clear parking lights.
