Will this look good in the Evo?
It would look nice but it won't work.
The only way a shifter gate would work is if the entire stick (top and bottom) moved when shifting gears while staying perfectly verticle. The stick on the Evo doesn't move like that - it only tilts from left to right as I go through the gears. The base of the stick stays almost perfectly in the center of the circle.
Check it out -- pictures of 1st gear and 5th gear.

Good luck! Looks like a neat idea

ed on your idea. this would be uber hard to do. especially if you wanted it to be like a ferrari or lambo.

Like I said, I did measurements on everything, all I need is the labor... But a very good point
)
Even then I'm still not sure it can be done because it looks like the spacing from one "slot" to the next (1 to 3 for example) is so close that there may not be enough room for a separator spline.
In anycase, I'd be interested to see the outcome. Good luck. Post pictures if you do it.
Like EvoSomeday pointed out - the pivot point is pretty high on the shifter. Why don't you just make a really nice billet cover without shift gates? You can still mill the gear indicators into it. That way people with all different kinds of short throw shifters can use it too.
I give you props for the idea, and you are welcome to try, if it works I'll be one of the first to congratulate you. But I don't see it working unless the gates are very high off the floor.
