Will this look good in the Evo?

I'm planning to DIY a shift gate plate for the LanEvo. To anyone that has done this before, I took out the shift boot and the entire cover to do measurements but just to be safe, show me some tips if you will....

I personally like the idea of having a shift gate instead of a shift boot cover, so please guys/gals, throw in some comments, even the bad ones, I will take them respectfully... lol....

Mahalo!

Seems like it would be a lot of trouble to do and get perfect. if ya were able to get it to shift right I think it might look nice though

I think you are just asking for a lot of headache with very little reward. And by headache, I don't just mean getting the plate to look right.

I sure it would look good, but if I forgot to close my ashtray I would lose all my change when I take off.

I think this is a very cool idea and would look great if it could be done so the car would shift properly but im hesitant to whether or not our gearboxes are precise enough for something like this to work correctly...however i hope it does work. Good luck

I don't think you will have enough movement from the lever in order for it to go into each tooth of the shiftgate.

But its worth a shot.

I think it would look great and more of a race look to the interior. The only problem would be if something fell in there (change) Just make sure you copy it to a "T" those angled seperation tabs will be crucial during fast shifts. I say do it and do it now!!!

one of my co-worker actually owns a small shop that has a really precise cutting machine, if I can get the measurements right, I think I can pull it off on the first try... not really a headache, it'll just be fun for me....

and I'm having trouble on picking the right type of material, at first my friends recommended thin steel with chrome paint, just like the lambo, but I wanted to experiment a little with a carbon fiber cover on top of the steel..... let me know what you think.... and I will keep this thread as the project goes, will start this weekend...

It would look nice but it won't work.

The only way a shifter gate would work is if the entire stick (top and bottom) moved when shifting gears while staying perfectly verticle. The stick on the Evo doesn't move like that - it only tilts from left to right as I go through the gears. The base of the stick stays almost perfectly in the center of the circle.

Check it out -- pictures of 1st gear and 5th gear.
