Carbon is great but $$$$ and I'm not into fiberglass with a carbon top sheet. So thermoforming seems to be a good fit. That project is a little bigger undertaking.
Why not make the rear diffuser out of aluminum? Also, if you're looking into possibly making it a production piece, then cutting of the rear bumper is probably not practical. IMO the best rear diffuser so far for the Evo was the one that Paul Gerrard helped design for Vishnu, although I do think that it could be improved upon.

Well, the thing is that the rear diff is engineered to have under-car air flowing across it, so even if the back's exposed, it's not receiving the airflow from the front that it's designed to have. Additionally, once you've got your rear diffuser rigged up you'll be completely sealed off. Just keep an eye on it

As I said, the diff is completely in the open - not the back, the whole diff. The rear diffuser will not be covering the diff either.

HMMMM I need something like this. I'd need some custom work though I'll definitely be putting them to good use and testing their effectiveness properly... And I'm in WA! Let's talk I'll be over there tomorrow (actually, I have to go to Speedware to pick up some stuff) so I might be in your area.

Bah! I'm leaving Thursday for a race. PM me and let's talk. I can certainly do some good tests, the type of racing we do is sustained high speeds (usually 130-140mph over 100mi) and as you can imagine aerodynamics are a huge concern of mine.

Fo_Sho, are you doing open road challenge type of stuff like the Silver State Classic?

I just got back from my first real drive with the underpanel, it was just across town to get gas... But the engine came up to full temp and I made a few pulls. When I got home I immediately got out and put my hand on the aluminum underpanel directly under the exhaust it was COLD to the touch, not even warm. By no means is this anything conclusive, but it's a better sign than it being HOT!

Yep! Silver State Classic Challenge. And others, this weekend we're heading to the Bonneville 100.

Drove 50 miles to work today, first half is cruising at 70 mph, second half is cruising at 40 mph, with occasional stops. Got to work - underpannel COLD.

We'll see how it does this afternoon at the track.
