Just read a thread from a local who's car burned up. Guess I'm sold.

So, I'm in the market for an extinguisher, but which one and where the hell do I mount it? I'm running on street, auto-X, road course, and strip without a rollbar.

I know I want one classified for all combustbles including electrical and liquid. But the real issue is size/location. Anyone with practical suggestions or solutions?

Thanks!

do you ride with somebody in the passenger's seat often? just put it in a seatbelt. XD

haha but seriously. i think one of the most common spots for cars that aren't stripped down and still used as a "family" car i guess you could say, would be the passengers side pillar.

other people might put it tucked under the passengers seat so its not in the way of the person's feet

personally, i would mount it to the back of our armrest sitting upright. the only way itd be in the way is if you have three people in the back seat all the time.
but yeah. i think itd be pretty easy to reach in case of a fire, and it wont be sticking out like if you were to mount it to your pillar or front seat.

I placed mine in the boot. It's an FIA approved one from Sparco. 4L ABC-type fires....

I do the hillclimbs and they are pretty picky as to were it is mounted and how it is mounted. I would recommend a 2.5 extinguisher with a metal mounting bracket. It fits perfect right under the front part of the passenger seat. That way its easy to get to and out of the way at the same time. Passengers don't even notice that it is there most of the time. I wouldn't recommend the whole a-pillar mounting thing. Its not all that secure there and if breaks off in a accident you are gonna have a real bad day. Here are som pictures to give you an idea.

Excellent. So what mounting are you using and to where? Floor? Seat rails?

Thanks!

There is actually a ridge in the floor that the seat bracket mounts to. It works perfect for a 2.5 lb extinguisher. You will see it when you look. Hope this helped!

On a side note I just noticed my needle is not longer in the "green". Glad I took the picture I never would have noticed. Lol.

There was a vendor who made them and it mounted to the bolts on the front of the driver seat. I would mount it there or where DD did

good question? I wonder where the road-racers mount it? Is there a cage mount?

Ya if you have a cage you can install it there really easily. There is a company that makes one that mounts to the factory bolts but its like 100 bucks. I don't remember who it is that makes it though. My friend has it in his STI. When it all done they both look the same.
