Question what are the best.....

.....gauges to use? Besides boost control (a must have) what ones are the most helpful? (EGT, A/F, OIL/FUEL temp/Pressure.... etc....)

also, any recomended brands? I like the Defi black face ones, but they don't come in 52mm....

these are gonna go in a 3 pod a-pillar mount.

THANKS!

The most important gauges you can get for a 4G63 are boost/vacuum, EGT, and oil pressure (if you have to have a 3rd one). EGT is more a saftey device than an actual tuning tool. Stay away from air/fuel gauges as they are pretty much useless unless you are using a wideband O2 sensor, which is not practical for most people unless you are dyno'ing and stuff. I would also go with a 60mm instead of 52mm, because 52 can be pretty hard to see at a glance, which is mostly all you get when trying to floor it and pay attention to the road/tach/speed/light tree/other drivers/lap timer/etc.

AutoMeter works pretty damn good all the time, but good luck getting them to match interior color and stuff. Actually, good luck getting any gauge to match Evo color both day and night. Stay away from VDO, TenzoR, and any of those lower name companies. The Blitz BLM gauges look realy sweet and are blacklight illuminated, totally different than any other gauge I have seen. Defi is another good brand from what I have seen, but they can get pricey if you get the Link stuff. HKS is also pretty damn good for gauges. Personally, I am going with the HKS CAMP system. A little pricey, but it gives me an excuse to mount a DVD player/monitor in the dash. Even though I would never have a need or a want to watch DVD's while I drive around.

Hope this helps,

Josh

thanks, I would like to have 60mm gauges, but I doubt they will fit. We will just have to wait and see when the a-pillar arrives. I've looked at the Blitz BLM and they are also on the top of my list. Anymore good brands and models?

Unless you want to do some serious modification to the pod, 60mm guages will not fit. I think the clearance w/ 52mm guages is pretty close as it is.

Personally, for the closest match and best value, I picked the carbon fiber Autometer guage series. The CF looks really sharp in the day and you can color them a reddish-orange at night.

When I had both of my GSX's, I had AutoMeter gauges in them. In the second GSX, I screwed up and bought the Phantom gauges, so they were white background. To match up, I bought the white gauges, which was hard to find that would be white background, but stull light up the way the Phantom gauges did....Pain in the *** and I should have just bought AutoMeter black background gauges and sold my Phantom's on eBay or something. With the GSX-mainly the 2nd one that I owned- it was primarily a track car, so I didn't care about gauges being all over the interior.....until "The Fast and the Furious" came out and then every Toyota Corolla and Mitsubishi Mirage had a-pillar gauges. Ever since then, I have been really turned off to the whole look of the gauges covering the interior unless the car is truely used for racing purposes. That is why I have decided to go with the HKS CAMP system. This way, when I want to monitor, I can watch it all from the in dash screen, and when I have a girl in the car, I can put it away and concentrate on more important things. Then again, if you are using gauges to pick up chicks, you are going about it all wrong......Anyway....

AutoMeter has always worked best for me, and like I said, on the 4G63, get a boost/vacuum and a EGT gauge. That is all you really need for a street driven car. There is no need for a third gauge, but since the Evo doesn't have an oil pressure gauge, perhaps get one of them to fill the extra hole.

Oh, another really cool option.....Get the Defi Link gauges and sensors. Then if you decide to get away from the gauges, you can switch to the heads up display and keep the sensors from the gauges to be used with the HUD.
