yeah, I actually stripped it back and tried it myself before I let chase at it. I'm familiar with the technique of wire wrapping/criss crossing, as it's done in Cat5, and I found it nowhere in there.
After digging through it as much as I have, I can say almost without a doubt, there wasn't any of that depth of engineering at play here. The placement of any criss-crossing had no rhyme or reason. It was for all intents and purposes, an absolute cluster****.
