CAD Wheel & Tire

<UPDATED2 9/1: SEE PAGE 2>
<UPDATED 7/15: SEE PAGE 2>

So I started teaching myself the Solid Works Computer Aided Design program a week or two ago. I figured it might be good practice (and fun) to make some evo parts. I am starting with the wheels and tires and moving on from there (ie... brakes, suspension parts). Once I get more familiar with Solid Works i'll hopefully move on to drivetrain, engine parts and hopefully one day I'll be able to design a full engine block and/or vehicle body.

So here's what I got so far. BBS IX MR Wheels and Tires (roughly based off of Bridgestone's RE-01R and RE-11's). The major dimensions are all to size with the minor dimensions according roughly to scale. Some dimensions were done from memory so it's not exact.

Anyone know how to render in solidworks?

To render in solidworks (if you have 2008 or 2009) just hit the office products tab which should be in the top left group of tabs and located on the right of those, then hit PhotoWorks in that drop-down menu under the SolidWorks Office button. There is a rendering option in that menu which will now also be located in the top group of tabs near file, edit, etc... Let me know if that helps.

It is a fun program, isn't it? I made this gauge pod and printed it on my boss's SLS machine. Free gauge pod FTW!

As of now, I have painted the whole thing including the screws flat black. Looks great

Good work with the wheels!

Evolutionthoery,
if ur planning on reving this part, see if u can place the screws from the bottom of the steering column cover and have them hidden into the pod. i think it would look nice.

I was thinking about it, but the material isn't cheap. I'm not sure how many more times I could get away with printing these. maybe I'll just tweak it a few more times until I'm happy and print it once more...

tweak it to ur specs, print it, and sell it to one of the vendors as a design

That'd be nice. Do you think they'd actually buy it?

why not! especialy if they already have a supplier in china molding these pods for dirt cheap, now all what they have to do is just supply him with the mesh file, and now they have a new pod. granted, there are plenty of pods made for the 8's and the 9's but i think the evo x's market is still looking for some cool new designs. u saved them on the SW seats, training, and engineering. GL!

NIce job on the wheel!

Solid works is fun and you can do a lot with the rendering in it.

Here is a tag I recently designed/rendered and had made.

I have designed a lot of products also in solidworks.

I want one right now! It's a very simple clean design! Let me know if you can hook me up! How much do they cost to make on your bosses machine?
