what kind of system u got?
I noticed this is the show and shine section but nobody seems to be talking about the radio/stereo aspects, i've noticed that the stock speakers in the evo are tiny, how do they sound from stock?
also what aftermarket speakers have you put in their place to make them sound good? are the alpine screens you guys have in your dash touch screen? etc. I dont want to put subs in the trunk when I get my car, i figured it would add too much weight, can you have a loud system w/o subs, what size are the stock speakers? thanks guys!

) and a kenwood excelon 6ch amp. i am planning to change my amp to 3 fosgates(2 mono when i get the other sub and a 4ch amp). well anyway PM me of wut u think of my idea

I posted this when I first came onto evom after getting my EVO 4 months ago. I still haven't bought a head unit yet, everytime I save up enough, something else happens. I'd still like suggestions on placement of 3 way speakers for the front stage.
I've been collecting various stereo bits over the last 6 months in anticipation of getting an STi with thank god, no factory system installed, obviously the STi didn't come about due to the sorry Subaru dealers in Maine, but as luck happened I ended up with a Rally Red EVO that I'm extremely happy with.
I haven't decided on a head unit, but I've been leaning towards the Pioneer Premier DEX-P9 (i wouldn't be able to afford the sound processor/eq DEQ-P9 at this time but would add later) or if installation comes out to be more than 2K, I would just go with the Alpine 7995 (just because it's cheap and I won't feel bad about replacing it when the time or rather money comes along). I'm up for suggestions, but I want pure SQ with no internal amplification and a single DIN configuration. Name brand is not important, but sound quality is. I don't want all the bells and gimmicks, but I would like XM satellite capability.
DEX-P9
Alpine 7995
I've already purchased this stuff:
Front speakers:
CDT EuroSports 643 3-ways
Not sure of the placement for these, I hear a dead spot by my ears with the stock speakers, so the 6 ½” woofers will go in the stock location, the tweeters if they image correctly will also go in the stock location, the 4” mids, I was thinking of putting at the far back of the front door, right above waist level, but I’ll have to see how they sound there first. I don’t really want to go with kickpanels because I don’t want to loose the dead pedal (I commute 70 miles one way to work and average about 1200 miles a week in the car).
Rear speakers:
a/d/s 345is components 5 ¼ midrange and 1” tweeter
and/or
a/d/s 346im integrated
Will probably just go with the 345is in the stock location and make a plate for them, unless I can get better sound out of the doors, which I doubt. I have the integrated speakers also, but think it would be overkill having 15 speakers in the car that will never enter into a competition.
Subwoofer:
CDT MS-100 minibox subwoofer
I’m not about loud bass that overpowers the rest of the music, I just want clean bass that enhances the music and does not take away from it. So one 10” will be fine to start out with and see if I need more. Will probably have a fiberglass enclosure made for the trunk, it won’t be big since this woofer is made for tight/small enclosures.
Amplifier:
a/d/s/ P850.2 8x50 watts amp at 4 ohms.
Will probably bridge 4 channels into two for the fronts, two separate channels for the rears and bridge 2 channels for the sub. This puppy is big, so the only place it can go is up against the back seat or having a false floor made for the trunk. I’d like to keep my spare tire (Maine roads play havoc with wheels and tires.)
I will probably go with Stinger Expert Series wiring, terminals, etc. Not sure which brand for sound dampening and will need to get an alarm system added too.
I have two friends that started Ritop School for Mobile Electronics who will probably end up doing the install work. I asked if my car could be used as the demo car for the school, but the instructors/owners didn’t feel right about letting an EVO be torn apart and put back together, oh well so much for free labor.
It would be great if someone could offer of suggestions on equipment I haven’t already purchased and placement, tips and techniques that you went through during your installs.
I'll be documenting the whole install and keep a diary to post later. I want a competition style install, (although I highly doubt it will ever be entered into competition).

favorite setuip
ok my favorite thing, me and my bro have been using in all our cars now, is using MB Quart Q-Series speakers, Alpine MRV-F540 or MRV-F407 amp for those, Alpine CDA-7995, CDA-7878, DVA-900, head units, and So far we have used the JL W7 12", Alpine Type R 10", and Solobaric L7 12" subs, and so far, i would say W7 is best but for best bang for buck, get the type R if you want clearity and loudness, but if u just want loud, get the L7, but if you want LOUD and CLEAR, spend the extra $$$ for the W7... Amps we have used so far, my truck has the MRV-540 and M500 on 1 10" Type R, the S2000 had same MRV-540 but a JL 1000/1 amp for the W7, the Escalade (bro's) had Memphis 1000D amps, 2 of those for the 2 12" subs.... good setup all in all i would say...

Now this guy has some taste! Might I suggest at least a Nak cd45z with that quality though?
yeah alpine,jl, and rockford r off the hook
but that's y my setup now is fosgate because in my old car, lancer GTI in philippines got a KICKER set up. i like it too
. my other car, an old corolla liftback forgot wut year it was had a set up of an alpine. i like that car better than the GTI even thought the lancer looks cooler and newer because the liftback is a rear-wheel drive and has top of the line performance parts on it. next i had a honda city in my image gallery which had a setup of JL. and now on my oz, i'm going for rockford coz i heard the sound of my cousin's old car which sounded great. so anyway it's not gonna change my mind of getting other systems
. well i'll just post the pic of my previous car, honda city.

you guys mught be wonderin why it had flowers on it and y all the windows r tinted. well, the car was in a wedding and was used as a bridal car. also, it was tinted coz in philippines, it's hot as hell and it's legal to have tint on all windows. well, almost all the ppl there tells the dealer to tint the car b4 they get it. cool huh?
i am very happy with my current setup:
Alpine 9815 HU
JL 450/4 for the front and rear speakers
JL 500/1 for the sub
Diamond audio HEX 6.5 3 way up front (silk tweeters)
Diamond audio HEX 6.5 coax 2 way in the rear
JL 12W6V2 sub in a sealed box (removable for track days)
all pheonix gold wires and caps
the sound is very clear and smooth and it works great with my music taste (rock and punk). i really don't need that much bass so i am thinking of switching to a 10w6v2 in a costum side mounted box.
i would highly recommand this setup if you like clear and loud music.
