Question Shift knob stuck!

I bought the blue metal shift knob for my evo and it was loose when i rotated it to the correct position so i twisted it hard and now it is stuck sideways with the numbers facing the passenger....is there any way to fix this? i'm tired of people saying "WHOA! your gears go THAT way?"

Put on a rubber glove and try again man. It happens.

Lift some weights, get a lil stronger and twist as hard you can the other way.

if your really desperate, you could wrap an ice bag around the shift stick and heat the knob up with a lighter/tourch/hairdryer. Then try twisting it off.

the cold on the shift stick will contract the metal just a little, and the heat on the shift knob will expand it a little. Maybe just enough to break it loose. Its worth a shot.

I bet your pretty safe, just watch out with the heat on the paint of the knob. Don't wanna ruin that pretty new know.

Try one of those little belt wrenches that crafstman sells. They're handy for lots of things. Maybe a pipe wrench with something between (piece of innertube) so you dont scuff the knob.

You won't damage anything. The actual shifter and linkage are pretty solid.

The best bet is a mechanics glove with rubber grips and a good hard twist. Of course, if you still can't get it, just pry the gear sticker off with a knife blade and reattach with a dot of super glue. Problem solved.

Was it the first time you screwed on the new knob? The 'shift pattern' number sticker should be removeable...

Just pop it off, expose the adhesive backing, and stick it back on so that the numbers face int he proper direction.

If you really need to remove the knob, try spraying some antisieze (think wd40 but stronger) onto any exposed shift stalk threads.
