Question Racing Harness?

Does any one know if there is a Racing harness that doesnt require drilling on the car for installation? I have seen a harness that just clips onto the rear seat seatbelt clip but I forgot to look at the brand..

I know of a racing harness setup that the lap belt bolts to the stock lab brackets, and the shoulder harnesses latch onto the rear seat-belt latch and feed through the eye-holes on the seat.. Our seats don't have the opening for a 5 point harness, but a four point is possible and easy to install. I think Schroth is the company that makes it. I'm fairly certain its used for some forms of SCCA racing, but may not be legal in NHRA drag racing. It wouldn't surprise me that there are more companies that offer them. I use RCI Racing buckets and harnesses in my race car, 5 point and a BIOTCH to adjust and latch quickly.

From what I know, these harnesses are legal.. Usually its safer than DOT recommendations, but a 3 point harness is the minimum legal requirement for an automotive restraint

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/evosafety.htm Something even better, there is a 4 point Schroth harness that mounts to the forward anchor points for the lap belts, and the rear seat anchor points for the shoulder belts.

And the DOT legality, I have read currently that the only DOT approved belt is the Schroth harness, but that may not be entirely correct.

For what its worth, harnesses are restrictive and can be uncomfortable to use in daily driving make sure when you have your harness on and tight, that everything you may want to adjust or manipulate is within your reach... Its a rude awakening to reach for something (like the radio) to discover its just out of your reach. When I take out my race car for an occasional cruise, I rarely put on the shoulder belts and only wear the lap belt, a very stupid and dangerous thing for me to do.

Ya know.. There's also an easier way.. We have the safety bracket for a child seat, It has an eye-hole hook, you can get an CLIMBERS rope lock (You've seen those things that people use as keychains, it is a loop of titanium or steel, with a latch) you can loop the mount through that (for the Schroth 3 point) and latch it onto the bracket.

Just so you know, something like that may not be legal for racing, if you plan on racing and not just for driving safety and show, you're going to have to mount it to an anchor point or the C Pillar.
