I want to know how well the wheel wax held up and how it was to apply, etc. I am awaiting my new wheels and want to get an initial coat on them before installing.

The guy I bought my Zaino kit from said you can use the Zaino on you wheels to. It's suppose to keep the brake dust from sticking to them.

Don't know about Zaino but usually the temps on the wheels just melt normal wax. I'm using Wheel Wax from Tire Rack and it's working great so far.

i hear zaino is excellent for long lasting gloss but its not a wax.. so it doesnt exactly protect your car from the elements, is that true?

So far they are both protecting the same from what I can see. Once I can REALLY wash and dry the car we may see some difference. With the weather lately I can only spray it off.

How is it with brake dust? I am assuming you are not using a wheel cleaner with it and just car wash solution. Like I said, I am waiting for my wheels to come and want to get a couple of coats on them before they hit the car. I just want to know how good the stuff is.

I use no wheel cleaners beyond soap and water, and during the winter so far I only spray it off and the wheels look great. It has a wierd texture but seems to work great. I have about 2 coats on and I'm very happpy with how it is holding up in winter.

UPDATE DAY: 64

Well after 64 days of salt, cinders and brine our weather finally took a day off. With mid-50's in the air I decided it was time for the first real test of our comparison...the first hand washing.

Nothing special here, just some Meguiars soap and water, rinse and dry...no additional waxes or polishes of any kind.

In the end I noticed a few things.

1) Both sides continue to look great even after not washing the car in the worse condisiotns for 64 days.

2) Both side shine and reflect equally.

3) As far as feel I'm amazed. Both sides feel glass smooth. Meguiars had a few rough spots but so did Zaino so I think that was probably just conditions. The hood feels great and almost perfectly smooth, but the sides, especially the lower sides feel the roughest and feel in need of clay and re-waxing. Overall the Meguiars side had fewer rough spots but that is probably just a result of conditions.

There is no clear winner still. The next test will probably be the same sort of thing, and after that I'll probably sytart testing to see if either side comes out better after freshening up the wax/polish layers.

For now I'd say the only winner may still ONLY be based on price and ease of application (both going to Meguiars).

This is a long-term test so stay tuned. I'll let the original layers go as far as I can before re-waxing so we get a valid test, BUT at some point like I said above I will re-apply each side and keep the test going. I think it will be interesting to see how they behave in summer with easier conditions, but hotter sun (on a black car).

Stay tuned...

PS With 13-inches of melting mush and road salt dust in the air I suspect my clean Tarmac won't even last a day!

The lighting is certainly different here, time of day & Dec. sky vs Feb. sky...but I think you get the idea. It is the same camera and roughly the same angle.

i have never used Zaino, but personally ALL I use is the Meguiars line, because it is easy to buy with Zaino... I think the only place to purchase is online. I work closely with Meguiars and so I am sponsored by them. Their new line just came out - NXT (Next Generation Garage) Line which features synthetic polymers. I can always agree that Meguiars knows there **** when it comes to car care products. A car museum with priceless vehicles uses Meguiars... showcars in the show scene whom the owner's simply LOVE their car, use Meguiars. I have no other reason to say, what the hell is the point of using Zaino. As in the pictures, you cannot even tell the difference. Meguiars is also more cost-effective if you are constantly cleaning your car. This is just my opinion.

I think most of the quality waxes out there. Zaino, Meguiar's, Wizard's, even high end Eagle One products are all pretty good. The difference between them is so small it is often down to ease of application and cost. I think they are all great products and saying one is far superior to another is simply not true typically. I use Wizard's because I absolutely love the feel of it. Doesn't look any different than the Meguiar's, seemed like it lasted longer but I also don't remember my Meguiar's making it over 2 months . So yeah.. This is awesome to see such a decent comparison and so forth between two great products. It's good that we have good options available to make our cars look so darn nice

which meguiars do you guys like the most?? i've seen the gold class around and i hear good things about it... but now ive been seeing this "NXT Generation Tech Wax" ...

also, after cleaning, do you guys suggest anything to put on the car before waxing it?? ive read about the clay bar which sounds like a good idea... but then i've seen people post about using various stuff before the actual wax.. i've got a white evo so swirl marks arent as big of an issue, but i'll put whats best for it on

I use the gold class myself. You should buy a cleaner and apply it first. It's just like applying wax but it cleans the impurities off the surface of the paint. You can clearly see the difference after a cleaner and it makes the wax job easier and turn out better. You don't have to clean it every time but you should do it about twice a year.
