To buff or not to buff...............

I have a Blue Evo and it has alot of swirl marks in the paint. Are the swirl marks in the clear coat or the paint itself? The dealership has offered to buff it for me, but I'm tempted to buy a buffer at Wally World and do it myself. What do you guys think? I've never buffed a car before and I don't want to fu@k it up. If I do it myself, what is the best technqiue? Should I clay bar it first? What is the best brand of products you would recommend to do this? Thanks for your advice.

I would say have the dealer do it, that way they are responsible and have them put it down that you want the paint cleaned up.

Well im a detailer and I would say ya you could do it your self no problem just a few things u have to know before doing it.

1. does the blue by you have a clear coat
2. weather or not it has one will determin what compound u use
3. ONce u find this out look up in the yellow pages and find a detail suply shop and go in and see what buffing compunds they have. U probably want a paint restore compound or a brightener compound.

Keys on how to use buffer

skwirt the compound on the buffing pad and then to avoid spraying it all over u and the car take the buffer and before turning it on rub it back and forth on the pannel spreading the compound all over the pannel you are working on then turn on at med speed and work in a side to side manner and and move relatively fast u dont want to stay in one spot to long as it can do swirl damage. kinda move like u are painting with a roller fast but not to fast. After going back and forth 4 a wile u want to keep going back and forth till the compunt is barely visable then put down your buffer and take a soft ragg and wipe the Xsess off then reapeat proccess for next pannel.

ALWAYS DO YOUR BUFFING ON A COOL SERFACE its easires on the paint and easier to do as well.

As for clay baring your car wash it and go over the paint with your hands if u feel little bits of sandpaper on teh paint then u need to clay bar the car

Excellent! Thanks for the advice, I think I'll give it a try myself. Going to your site to read more, thanks again!
