Tommi Makinen Evo III Replica
Jari-Matti is actually my relative (which is why I'm able to get these pics
), and his father used to drive for Mitsu when he rallied. He drives a Fiesta WRC in rallies, but since there is no road-going AWD Fiesta, he's been recently driving an Evo 9 as one of his daily drivers. It inspired him to build this III, in honor of Makinen.
As far as I know, it has Reiger coilovers, sway bars, and some other suspension work done, brake upgrades but he didn't mention by who, and bolt-on engine mods plus a tune for 350whp. He's not doing any major work since it's his dd.
thanks for the reply. what a killer info hookup. thanks so much.
Haha not a problem.
A bit of history about the original car: it made it's debut in the 1995 world rally championship, replacing the Evo II halfway through the season. In the 1996 WRC, Tommi Makinen drove it for the win in Sweden, the first rally of the season. He went on to win 5 rallies in total that year, and took the driver's championship. This was the first time a driver in an Evo took the championship. Makinen won the championship 4 years straight, and nearly single-handedly built the reputation for rally that continues today for the Evo. In fact, no other driver has ever won the WRC championship in an Evo except Makinen.

Haha no, not at all. Drivers in Evos won many rallies over the years, but only Makinen was consistent enough to win the WRC championship. In fact, Makinen won the championship for 4 straight years, the only other driver to have done that is Sebastien Loeb, who drives for Citroen. The world of rally is also very different now compared to what it was. You can pretty much build an Evo to match the specs it had in the late 90s in your garage. Now, factory-backed rally cars like the Focus or Fiesta WRC, or the Citroen C4 or DS3 cost north of $500k to build. Drop $500k into your '06, and then your car is competative. It's no mystery why Mitsu, Subaru, Skoda and Toyota pulled out of the WRC, considering that for each driver, you'd need to have multiple $500k+ cars available for each race. Nevermind advertising costs, the cost of paying your team's salaries, and the costs of repairs and maintenance. For comparison, one Nascar costs about $150k.
