Custom Interior Gauge Pod
Custom Interior Gauge Pod
Last October I began my build. It started with my interior. When gauge location was being figured out, I bought a ATI dash gauge pod, but really wasnt a fan of it once laying it out on the dash. One thing lead to another and the idea of puting my gauges in my centre vent came to life. Purchased a used centre trim with vent. And this followed.... (sorry for the crappy phone pics)
Pictured have disappeared... linked new pictures to page 5
Cut vents out

Then mocked up gauges

Then the fun began...not!! Molded with clay...

Then other side too, just to get gauges centred and in palce

Then shaved all the excess down

Tapped entire piece

Fiber glass begins...

Removed mold from centre trim

Began to cut fiberglass mold to shape

Fiber glassed tubes in place

Really starting to make progress, cut fiberglass mold into two pieces and fiberglassed to centre trim for LIFE!!

Bondo time lol

Test fit with gauges

Fine spot puddy used now

Primed and sanded to see high spots and imperfections

Almost done!!!

Carbon fiber wrap!

Not bad for my first try at custom work like this

Hope you guys enjoyed

damn thats good work! someone should really sell something like this. but then yours wouldnt be as rare
but now were all the air go; just the side vents? ill be waiting to see some pics of it all installed

Dash is out and wiring is being shaved and new wires run lol
Debating on removing ac while im here

For airflow, I have blocked off the centre section of the vent and cut all excess plastic off. This will send all airflow to the side vents effectively
Didnt even have to loosen the steering column like i thought i would have to. Once all panels are removed its just a handfull of bolts...something like 14 or so. Remove through passenger front door
Its not 3m, its an actual woven material with no glue backing at all, strickly fabric
Picked it up from a VW vendor last year
Ben from p2spec.. but it looks like they went under
But good thing I purchased lots of extra in case of emergency
