Make Your Own Engine Dress Bolt Kit

If you refuse to pay $200 for a stainless steel engine bay bolt kit like me, then you can make your own. I ran to ACE Hardware today and got mine started. I really don't see the purpose in titanium bolts, so stainless steel is good with me. The process can be time consuming and tedious, but it's worth it in the end.

Why do this?

I plan on making a full kit and a How-To on this to make the process easier on everyone looking to do this, so stand by for that in the next few weeks. I'll include pics, sizes and price. My goal is to do this for under $50.

The beauty of this is that you can replace as many bolts as you want and not have to stick to a standard number of bolts. Plus you get to choose which ever style bolt you want!

Great job man! I've been wanting to do this... even better if you save me the time of searching for the right replacement bolts. Appreciate and look forward to your write up.

Most of these bolts are around $.80 a piece so it's worth the work. And I plan on doing most visible bolts.

Best place to go is BoltDepot.com. I paid about $35 for these bolts with finishing washers. Everything is stainless. I bought enough bolts to do all the bolts on the cores support, as well as fenders on 4 evos now, then enough to do 3 valve covers, and I still got some left haha.

Just don't replace your manifold heat shield bolts with stainless, mine snapped when I tightened them after a few heat cycles

Can we get a link to what exact bolts you ordered and sizes?

Sure thing!

This is my order I placed back in Sept. Copied and pasted here. Of course, you dont have to order as many, I just ordered a bunch cause I knew my buddies would want them once they saw mine haha!

Anything with a 10mm head, is the 6mmx1.0mm thread size. Anything with a 12mm head is the 8mmx1.25mm thread size. The finishing washers are measured in standard cause they arent available in actual metric sizes. I shopped around and found that these washers fit great with the metric bolts.

Quantity Description Unit Price Subtotal Status
20 pieces #6685 - Metric socket flat head, Stainless steel 18-8, 6mm x 1.0mm x 10mm $0.14 $2.80 Shipped
1 box of 100 #6689 - Metric socket flat head, Stainless steel 18-8, 6mm x 1.0mm x 25mm $12.45 $12.45 Shipped
10 pieces #6700 - Metric socket flat head, Stainless steel 18-8, 8mm x 1.25mm x 25mm $0.50 $5.00 Shipped
1 box of 100 #2941 - Finishing washers, Stainless steel 18-8, #14 (1/4) $6.32 $6.32 Shipped
10 pieces #5579 - Finishing washers, Stainless steel 18-8, 5/16" $0.19 $1.90 Shipped
Subtotal $28.47
Tax $0.00
Shipping $9.96
Total $38.43

I would really like to find a company that sells bulk bolts in the factory gold zinc as well!

Cool man. I would only like those around the headlights.

And I'll still make a kit and make a How-To. I'll make sure you get props too.

ok, cool man. Yea the bolts I ran arent for every application. They look great for the fenders, headlights, bumpers, basically anthing that touches blue paint, was my rule lol. As for bolts on the actual motor, thats where I would like to find some of the fasteners in the gold zinc coating.
