wow, $13k would have totaled my car easy, KBB is only $10,500. I paid $25k about 6-7 years ago, 2nd owner.

Paint tomorrow

Getting paint tomorrow, can't wait. In the meantime I opened up the headlights with a heat gun and painted the chrome insert flat black. Also ordered some other goodies, hurry up Mr. UPS man!

Looking good so far! My new (to me) VIII goes in the shop next week. Car was great mechanically, the guy just didnt do much to care for the paint. Its currently TB, but I'm considering a switch to another black or even another color. Look forward to seeing more progress pics!

He's thinking it will be ready tomorrow. Wish I could fast forward time, I've been driving my woman's 2001 Galant around, it's just NOT THE SAME!!

My headlights are done but my new floor mats, smoked side markers and LED Taillights won't be in until next week :/

Anyone try these? Made by DEPO, picked them up for $264 shipped on eBay and they come with the smoked side markers.

The floormats I bought look kinda cheap but I'm sure anything will be better than what I have now and for the price, I really can't complain, $56 shipped.. plus it's pretty cool they happen to have red threading.

My first choice would have been white and black, but don't tell my car, she's sensitive.

dude, your car looks very nice in ur avatar pic but it's like 60 pixels high, got a photo you can post? I like seeing what other people did with their Evos, especially black-red.

Great pics! Keep us posted.

Mine has hail damage, too. This may seem stupid, but I've never actually seen a car painted, so:

What is that yellow stuff? I'm assuming filler paint of some kind? Does it need to be resanded after that?

And, most importantly, does your friend know someone in the mid-TN region who will do the same thing for about the same money & is good?

I think it's some kinda dent filler like "bondo" .. I'm sure it would have been better if he would have spent more time trying to remove the dents instead of just filling them, I think he removed some of them but others were in parts of the car that he just couldn't access from behind the way he would want. Plus for the price I can't really complain.

I do know he sands everything a lot before painting, even the undamaged parts get sanded so the primer sticks. For my headlight chrome inserts when I got the housings open they were shiny chrome but I still had to hit them with 600 grit sand paper to ensure good stickage with the primer.

I'll mention TN to him, see if he knows anybody, I think guys like this are really a diamond in the rough for us weekend-warrior car buffs types. I met him back when street racing was like, "omg dude, that vtech is fast, lets race" days and we've been friends ever since. I do a lot of website / IT support for him on the side in exchange for his generosity. He's a friend I value for many reasons.
