Valve Cover Powdercoat from bad to good (process pics)

I had this cover done by a guy local in my town and clearly described and showed him pictures of what i wanted which was a color similiar of the fortune auto cover

this is what i got:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

So since this turned out nothing what i wanted im having it redone out of state at a buddy of mines shop in AZ he is in the process of blasting it and is finding out how heavy the previous coat was layed on

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

This is after 1 hour of blasting needless to say the first job was done ****ty the final product will be outstanding though it will be coated with powderChrome then hit with 3 coats of Translucent Purple and will have that nice deep Anodized look will post pics

here it is finally ready for the new coat has been blasted washed rinsed all the above and has came out perfect next step new coating

I personally would have had it chemically stripped rather than blasted. Too many horror stories for me. Good luck!

Yeah. I contacted RRE to get some history lessons on an engine that was in a car I purchased that had lots of RRE receipts and the owner gave me some info stating that the guy blew up the original motor by having the valve cover sand blasted to be coated. Well lots of sand found way into the baffles and even tho the valve cover was washed by a legit company, there was still enough sand inside to do enough damage to total the engine.

Scary Stuff!

If he's blasting the valve cover you'll have to remove the baffles to clean them out!!! There's a few threads on here with a how to. I don't care how many times you wash it you'll never get them cleaned out until you remove the baffles!!!

yes you have to drill out the rivets, then drill and tap each rivet spot for a schs or any kind of bolt to hold the baffles in again, look in r/t ernies build thread he shows how to do it

Or just bead blast with baking soda which then dissolves when you wash it.

Is it only bead blasting you have to do this? If it was sand blasted, do you have to remove the baffles to get it out also?
