Graphite Grey IX MR
Graphite Grey IX MR
How's it going, everyone? My name is Ben, and after using the boards to search for tons of information, I need to introduce myself and the new ride and say thanks for all the insight that helped me find a great car.
I owned an E36 M3 for 10 years before getting into this Evo, so it's altogether a different animal! I put a lot of love, time, and miles on that car. I've known a few friends who've had all sorts of Subarus, but never had any firsthand experience with Evos. I was considering all sorts of options, but I absolutely had to have a manual trans, and the car had to have that mechanical feeling and feedback that tells you what's going on (this is a whole different conversation that we could hash out relating to most newer cars!). In other words, I needed a car that put a smile on my face every time I drove it.
So the search began, and I drove 7 or 8 Evos throughout California in my quest to find a good car for a decent deal. I never considered the Evo X. I mostly test drove MRs, but did drive one GSR and RS. I saw some sad looking cars, and none that I drove justified their asking prices, so my patience paid off when I found the '06 MR that I ended up buying. This guy absolutely babied it, and wanted to move on to something more "grown up". Fine by me! After a PPI showed all systems working great, I picked it up in August 2012 with just under 41k miles on it, stock except for a sony stereo! Since then, I've just been getting to know it and need to get it on a track to enjoy it more. I detailed it inside and out, hardwired the Valentine 1, took off the wing, changed the oil a couple times already, got an alignment, and put some Michelin Super Sports on it. What a difference from the crappy Kumho ASX the PO had on it! Just got it tinted too, for the pooch...
I'm really loving the car so far, although it sits pretty high! The M3 was really low though, so I enjoy not having clearance issues over speedbumps, etc. I've obviously gotten a sense of how much the Evo community loves to modify their cars, but for now I'm resisting the temptation and just doing the maintain/enjoy thing and look forward to hitting an AutoX or trackday soon.

Again, thanks for all of the shared knowledge. See you around,
Ben
