Evo IV GSR Restore/Revive
Going back abit here but op, I was wondering what that zinc spray was? Does it have a sort of rough finish to it? And is there different colours you can get? I seen this coating in someone else's evo and was wondering if this is the same stuff.
For the rust in the radiator, I first flushed it a few times with water (fill up with water and then undo the plug at the bottom). Filled it up with fresh water then I used a cleaner agent (depends on what stuff you use - this was a tiny bottle of 200 ml and I poured it all in). Then let the engine run for 20-30 mins. Let everything cool and let out all the gunk, then flush again x3 times then for the final step. Put in the coolant concentrate and water.
Don't quote me on this but I think the idea of the zinc spray, is because zinc is somehow chemically stable or doesn't react with water/salt (ie. winter roads). So hence the grey colour. The finish is pretty rough, I would describe it having a surface roughness of 250/300 sand paper when you run your finger across it. I haven't seen it in any other colour? Would you have a link to the other thread?
Sorry for the delay, but work and other commitments have kept me away. Anyhow on the the build.
So the rear top deck for the speakers had some fake leather thing which was black and looked to me quite yuck... so I decided to spice it up a bit.
With some leftover carbon fibre from work...

And finally mounted in the car

The rear sway bar und the bushings look a bit tired so I thought might as well freshen that up as well.. alas this happened
After some
and
the solution came in the form of

I must say it was really difficult removing them because of the angle of the holder you can't really get the thread removers perpendicular to the sheared thread because the subframe is in the way... but anyhow after some more

Next step the front mount looked a bit tired and that also needed a change.
Old front mount and piping coming off:

After looking around a bit I came across the fmic from HPI, from price and quality I'm very satisfied. The one in it before was a HKS one I think the HPI would flow better judging from how the core is made.

The previous owner had a hks ssqv bov installed which here in germany is completely illegally... so that was going to go out and be replaced with an oem recirc valve.

Taking the rubber intake hose to the turbo hose revealed this...

I gave it a good clean with brake fluid and water. This is due to having a breather line from the head of the engine, I don't know the experience of others here about it. But by the looks of it I will probably be checking it every once a year... don't want grim specks going against the impeller...

The car has already boost and oil pressure gauges but no oil temperature so that was the next thing to be dealt with.

The rear coilys where pretty shot, so I decided to renew them (GAZ). Unfortunately a set of new coilovers at the moment is a bit out of budget
however they are still on the cards.

Generally speaking its not a bad idea to stiffen up the rear of the car, so a bar from Ultraracing goes in:

There she is

More to come
