Audiovox Alarms

I am looking at the Audiovox APS996 alarm system (2-way, remote start, etc.)

Does anyone have an opinion on this system or Audiovox alarms in general?

One shop says they're very solid another said they depend on what car they're installed in.

How do they compare to DEI products (Viper/Clifford/Python/etc.)?

I know that DEI and Compustar has a bigger reputation but how about Audiovox/Presige's name in the alarm business?

Audiovox doesn't have the same name recognition or reputation as DEI but I feel this is mostly due to lack of advertising. I would never go with Audivox for car audio but they do make very good mobile video and security products. I work with their products on a daily basis and their alarms are pretty much bullit proof. I've personally installed the APS996 and the DEI 2 way units. They both work great.

By far the most important part of the security system is not the unit itself, the installation is much more important. Most security systems these days are very comparable but installers are not! Make sure the shop you go with knows what they are doing and take some time to talk to the installer to get a feel of how knowledgeable he/she is.

I would steer clear of the shop that said "it depends on what car they're installed in".

I have an audiovox alarm on my evo and I have had great luck with it. I was nervous about the name to start with but the product is great. The only problem that I have is my alarm will not lock the doors with my greddy turbo timer on, because the engine is still running.....only minor issue though.
