IX hillclimb car - wide body with gt1000
copying parts from our build thread in the motorsports section now that we have more videos and shiney pics of the car.
Original thread for more info:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/mo...build-log.html
Here is our starting platform:
gutting:
more:
core for a 2.2L 4g63 build
more cage progress and starting to make the mold for a carbon roof
removed roof.
making the carbon roof:
Here it is on the table putting the peel ply layer:
getting vacuum setup:
it was laying weird on the table so we sat it on the car overnight to cure:
the bottom was sucked TIGHT!
turned out pretty decent for a first go. might be a little thin but we have a lightweight bracing idea from the cage so it should work.
rocker boxes for the cage. laser cut goodness
Cage progress
CBRD exhaust parts:
Made some aluminum washers to compensate for the cage weight
Seat mounted and more bracing tacked in.
cross bracing to tie the cage into the front strut tower brace mounting point. we wanted to go all the way through but coulding get a clean way to do it.
brought my cousin in to help with some of the more visible welds. its weird having a younger cousin be able to vastly out perform you in something like welding haha
acd pump mounted to a wing support
accusump mounted to the rear strut brace
obligatory wing shot. cut the mounts out of some 1/4" 6061. they feel alright but the fit wasnt exactly what we wanted so we'll redo them out of 3/8" this week.
load up to get to the tuners wednesday.
we had a couple wiring gremlins which is to be expected when re-wiring the entire car. overall i was impressed how few we had as wiring scares and confuses me haha
getting a startup tune loaded up:
get it started up and rolling it into the dyno to break in the motor:
one of my little shop helpers. he loves a "race car"
Here is the car at 2:30 am with 3 guys working in it

we have a couple of vids floating around. typically we're running around adjusting the car between runs there isnt a lot of time to mess with gopros.
we did the NHA Hill Climb series this summer aside from the first race. The last 6 races were in Idaho, Oregon, California, and washington. The car took King of the Hill at all 6 races, set 8 class records and 2 all time hill records!
now that the hillclimb season is over we may look into some track day stuff - but it will be a few weeks because we need a break! haha
