evo 9 hillclimb build log

A few years ago I raced the Idaho NHA hillclimbs in my evo. It was a mild SM build with stock motor on e85 and a ohlins suspension. It was competitive (holds records at Bogus Basin and Freezeout for fastest doorslammer) but i knew the platform had more in it. Took off a few years and raced around the west in RZR's and that was a blast, but i kept missing the power of a turbo'd car. This fall i was talking to a buddy of mine (Bryant) and he mentioned wanting to race the entire hillclimb circuit (7 races) and we ended up decided to campaign his car together. It just so happnes i bought a tubing bender, welder, and notcher to build parts for my rzr so we are going to go with a full cage, gut the car (still trying to decide if we can keep it SM legal or go up to a higher class and drop more weight), add more power, possible swap out suspension, etc...

Cage i build for my buddies rzr. i am sponsored by Magnum Offroad so i couldn't even make my own cage lol

The build will start slow because i'll be snowmobiling for the next couple months. Planning on really hitting it end of january/february as time allows.

Looking like the car owner is going to order a 2.3L shortblock in the next few weeks.

Let the part gathering begin

thanks!

custom full containment seat ordered from Ultra Shield. I've been using their rally sport seat in my evo and Rzr for years. build quality is great, they're light, and dont break the bank (too much)
