Anyone had a black Evo repainted?T
Anyone had a black Evo repainted?T
Reason I ask is that my car was egged pretty bad over the weekend. As i was out of town I didn't see it till all that **** was glued to the paint. Took me about 5 hours with a bug and tar remover to remove most of it. But there's still **** stuck in the weather strips. Also the right B-pillar, trunk and spoiler are a bit scratched up...probably that's where eggs must have hit first. Anyway, before I file an insurance claim i was wondering if a paint shop will be able to match the paint. The reason I ask is that hte black paint has a certain type of gloss in it that u can only see in direct sunlight.
Any thoughts are much appreciated. Just pissing to see my Evo with scratches esp when it's just 2 months old

a friend has a black evo and from an angle you can see blue particles in the paint... then again it's still just glossy black in general so i wouldnt worry about any repaint.

I would say avoid painting your car unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. I had a small bump about 6 moths ago and paint matching the Mitsubishi color code was a mess. When the car was painted the mica levels and reflectivity were way off.
It took the body shop 3 re-sprays to get the car looking right and do enough blending to have everything match. About 80% of the car has been painted and/or blended now. Part of the problem was the insurance comapny, they wanted to limit how much of the car was blended to keep costs down. Eventually they had to blend both sides, the entire front end, the areas above all the windows, the rockers, etc. The car still doesn't match a new Tarmac. If I park next to one, I have a bit more of a plum undertone.

As some of you know, my car was vandalized a month ago, both drivers side doors needed to be re-skinned among other things. The body shop I took my car to did an excellent job on matching my car. They did not need to blend at all, they repainted just the doors and it matches absolutely perfect. My car was 1 week old when this happened, so the insurance company was willing to cough up the dough for a good shop to do the work. If you're going to have part of the car repainted, make sure a professional shop with a good reputation does the work. It took a month for me to get my car back between the doors being repaired, the windows being replaced, and getting a new dash and door panel. However the car is like new and I am glad I was patient with the work.

If it is hard to match, why not have it completely repainted. That will solve your future problem with crappy
paint too. Get a custom paint job or some kind of special black paint job. As for me, I have a rally red so my alternative is to have it repaint like the wrc evo.
P.S if the insurance wont pay for the whole job, then I guess you can "cough up dome doughs" get it done.

I believe most of the problem with paint matching for me was because the paint manufacturer didn't have the Evo's colors sorted out yet. The shop had a rep from the paint company out to the shop to do the initial matching (it was wrong). All the other work was just clean-up.
I was hit from my driver side rear door and needed a new door, bumper, side skirt and probably a few other things. It's impossible to tell anything was painted or replaced.
Great bodyshop!
