A few days ago I dropped off my valve cover for powder coating looking for as close to oem color as we could find. I found a sample color from Prismatic Powders he had laying around that consisted of their "Inferno red" base coat and "Jolly Rancher red" top coat. It was about a 95% color match to oem. So then I look up this color combination on Prismatic's site and they reference a "Chrysler Inferno Red" oem color as the closest match. I looked up this oem paint code PRH "Inferno Red Crystal Pearl", sometimes called "Inferno Red Metallic" on different cars and sure enough it is dead on. I've only seen it in pictures but it is a perfect match to my eyes and considering they used this color on other Chrysler/Dodge/Mitsu cars from the same years as the evo I think PRH is it. Maybe they liked the color of the valve cover so much they started spraying entire cars with it lol.
So I took the plunge on this, and the paint (PRH) is a very close match to the point I think it is the same. I used it as touch up paint and for the most part can't see a difference. After 20 years, maybe this is now solved.

Yeah I'm still convinced its PRH too. Would be cool if my detective skills paid off for once and I can say I contributed a valuable piece of lost info to this forum lol. Have any pics?

I only used it as touch up paint, so in some angles it appears a little darker, but if you were to repaint the whole thing, I think you would be pretty damn close. Also, it is a 20 year old piece and has probably faded with time too. Pictures below showing before and after - with harsh LED lighting. I did a test spot around where the coil cover bolts on, which is the third photo. Your detective skills paid off for me - thanks brother!

To my eyes, it's an excellent match. I agree that the original fades a bit with age/heat.

I ended up buying a new Evo VII VC to avoid dealing with powdercoat and subsequent baffle R&R.
