Panic Button
Panic Button
Wonder if anyone might be able to point me in the direction of someone/somewhere that might be capable of doing the following:
Install an LCD readout in the dash. High contrast red on black (think alarm clock).
Install a button on either the center console, or in a good location on the passenger side dash.Occasionally family is in town, and I drive to a restaurant or something. If I take as much as an on-ramp more than 5mph over the posted limit, some people tend to freak (while some like my father have done far dumber things and damned if they'd even notice). Same with business clients and co-workers.
Basically i want a nice little red button labeled "PANIC". When it's pressed, the LCD readout in the dash boldly says:
-----
I'm dead serious too, regardless of cost.

PASSENGER S**T PANTS

I don't want just a button that does nothing. I could've called a plastics company for that.
The LCD display is the kicker, and I want it installed right, professionally, and for it to look like it came that way from the factory. Need to find a place that does custom automotive interiors, but Google's top results are Google-bombed with places that largely sell floor mats.
This isn't a cheap gag. Picture a nice quality button with a carbon fiber surround, with the button itself rimmed in brushed aluminum. I want the LCD display to fit into the gauge panel perfectly. Everything mounted proper with brackets, and all the electronics done proper. It needs to look professional, and I'm expecting to pay at least $500 to have this done right.

okay well here is my suggestion. Get that panic button fabricate a bracket to fit inside the passenger Air Vent with one of the scrolling LED readouts (Like a stockmarket ticker) Im sure they make those in all sizesIt would look like this

No ticker, seems cheap.
The original high-contrast LCD idea was lifted directly from Paul Tracy's specially made dual cockpit CART Champ car, which had the panic button in the rear cockpit, and displayed the message near the top of his gauge cluster. The car is used for demo purposes for potential sponsors. Obviously, the passenger can't see the message, so it's polite, though I'm sure it amuses Paul every time.
I guess the alternative is modifying a the MR's stock gauge panel, and just having an indicator light come on which lights up the words, similar to the "CHECK ENGINE" indicator in lots of cars. Much simpler. Though I'd like to go for the real deal.
