You guys should try driving up here. With our joyous winters the city ends up dumping tons of gravel on the road. Within one winter I already have a windshield length crack, another one going almost top to bottom and countless chips all over the car.

 

doesn't your insurance company replace the windshield if it's severe enough?

rocks usually hit me from SUVs or semi or box trucks kicking them up and pelting the windhield. Every one of my car, except the first, has a pot marks on the windshield.

You are just lucky that a bucket falling off a pool truck didn't tracking you across 3 lanes and into the run off lane like a guided missle to hit you. That's a true story that happened to me. As for the truck guy, he hauled butt beyond 80 mph after I braked in the run off lane, trying not to go into the grass around 50 mph.
