DAMIT!!! Another effing rock!!

so i'm driving along 93 south yesterday, heading down to my gf's place. doing 70 on the third lane. up ahead on the slow lane, i see this dump truck. in the back of my head, i see a rock boucing along and nailing my car so to be safe i change to the 4th and try to race ahead to pass him. well, my luck, a rock does come bouncing along and BAM!!! nail my hood and my windshield. get to my gf place and inspect the damage. my windshield is chip but i don't care (easily replaceable) however, hood have a bunch of scratches. that's the 4 rock to hit me since owning the car, . first one chipped a chunk of pain off the tip of the hood. second one took a chunk off the bumper. 3rd scratched the hood and made a 24inch crack on the windshield. and finally the 4th one, more scratches. driven my girl's car, my mom's and my dad for years and never a rock. drive my car twice a week and i get this. is this dam thing a rock magnet or something?

It happens to everyone at one time or another. You are lucky your hood is not dented, since the light aluminum is very thin. I always ride with the hood piece of the bra which covers up the leading edge of the hood all the way to the front of the hood vent. It looks good on my car even though I hate bras. My other car is an 04 and has many rock chips on the hood and nose and honda's paint is much better.

Where I live there is lots of new construction and rock trucks going by all day, even triple dumper trucks. I just either stay way behind them or pass and hug the outside line of the passing lane to give as much room between us. I also avoid freeways if I can. The surface streets are slower speeds and very few dumpers going by.

Uhhmm.. Don't know if you are aware of this but an evo replacement windshield is close to 500.00 just for the glass alone. You could get off using a regular lancer one but one the mirror is not mounted like the evo and two it weighs 2x as much. The wight factor is why the EVO windshield is expensive. I'd contact your insurance to cover the windshield.

it's just a lil chip. don't even notice it much. i probably won't do anything unless it starts to crack. i had it replaced once already. thank god for the 2 replacement windshield replacement i get per year. at this rate i might have to get it changed every 6 months.

I drive 93 south all the time and there is tons of debris in the 4th lane and especially where the movable barrier for the carpool is. The front of mine has tons of little scratches, the black mesh rubber coating in front of the intercooler is all peeling and looks like crap. Not sure how to fix it, no holes or brakes in the mesh, it is just going to start rusting through soon. Good luck avoiding all our obstacles in Boston, especially the huge potholes.

Checked with Mitsu and it does have a different part # (MR-991637) for $452.56 retail. This doesn't include installation.

Lancer windshield is only 150.00.

There is another thread going on about this.

it's a different car, of course there is going to be another part number...

try calling a glass shop and asking them if the same windshield will work and if it's the same price..

The windows on the evo is indeed thinner and lighter. I had my little triangular window in the back broke out. I had to wait a month for it to come in from japan because it was different from the regular lancers here in the U.S.

yes in the back, but not the windshield. I'm pretty sure they are the same as a thinner windshield = less protection from things flying into your face and causing your head to implode.

oh no doubt that some of the glass on the car is different, but i seriously doubt the windshield is.. i'll call my distributors monday and see if it's different..

my cpu only pulls up the regular lancer....

guys i am not sure but i think that windshileds have to meet a ceratin saftey standard i dont think a company can make a cheap windshield. winshields are made from a few company and then the more stamping you see in the bottom left corner the more the price goes up. you can find the same windshlied for the evo at a shop without the mitsu sign and i bet you it will be 35% cheaper in price and it will be the same windshield. given there are aftermarket winshileds that just fit like ****, but i think if you go check the etching on the glass of who produces our windshiled and you go ask for that brand for the evo at a glass shop it will be cheaper. mitsu puts extra money on it because it has there sign.

but again as i said earlier i think.

Some auto glass shops can fix chips/cracks. They use some kind of clear apoxy and heat. It worked well on my wifes Civic. Evo's are kind of rock magnets though............
