You have to cut a tab off the turn signal light socket to switch it with the reverse light. The turn signal has two tabs and the reverse light only one, other then that the sockets are the same. Cutting the tab off allows it to hook into the other bulb location. I did it on my painted lights because I was sick of people not knowing I was backing up.

The problem with that picture is that its photoshopped. If we actually cut circles for the reverse it would most likely look ugly cause the housing is deep inside and when u reverse it would still appear red from the sides.

Your correct but.... The connection for turn signal and reverse can be switched simply by switching them. This makes the the reverse the turn signal and the turn signal the reverse. The turnsignal can also be spliced to become the reverse and turn signal at the same time (you just need to use a white bulb).

I can take pictures of what those different options will look like cause I've done them already.

But personally I am working on making the reverse=brake light, turn signal=reverse, brakelight=turn signal, and parkingtaillight=parkingtaillight.

They look so good in person! Everyone seems to notice them quickly.
