Question Tein suspension

does anyone know if Tein dampers are really worth the time to find, and the money to spend?

My freind has a 91' celica all-trac with tein-ha in it. I have driven the car and let me tell you it is stiff! So stiff his girl friend will not drive in it. (bouncy big chest) My personal opinion would be it it were a track car only they would be good. My personal opinion would be to look at DMS (Drummond motorsports) from Aus. That is what I would buy for my WRX but I am waiting to find out on the EVO release. If it comes the WRX goes!!

My recommendation is to buy a US product because one day your shocks will be blown and the last thing you want is to have to send it to Japan to get it rebuilt. Truechoice ( http://www.truechoice.com/ ) can create awesome setups using Koni shocks and Eibach springs. There's also ShockTek ( http://www.hotshox.com/ ). They do custom Bilstein setups which are also very nice.

The best thing to do would be to invest in some track time. I'm still on stock suspension on my Type-R and I pass plenty of cars because I have more experience Then, when you upgrade your suspension you'll know whether it works for you or not. I plan to run on stock suspension till it craps out

TEIN are also way too much for what you get. I could get a set of Bilteins and Ground Controls that w/ custom sleeves to fit the shocks for around $700.

I wonder how well trained the tein techs will be in the US. I hope they get some race experience under their belts. My friend had tein HAs and thought they were nice. After a few track events he realized the spring rates they offer sucked and went with the Bilteins and GCs w/ custom spring rates. Now he's one happy camper.

I've heard very good things about DMS, but they seem ultra expensive. I don't think they'd be worth it for an everyday driver.

It depends which DMS set-up you get. If you refer to sport compact car for test on the DMS gold set-up tuned for M2 on the WRX it had the fastest slolom speed ever recorded by them. Even faster than the Bozzspeed EVO.

40mm golds run about 1500.00
50mm run about 2500.00
60mm giant run 3300.00 and up

All DMS are availiable with your choice of spring rates and customer service is A1.

My personal reasons for choosing DMS is that they are built to Rally-spec's. They have a reputation of being tough as nails and that first day you miss that turn and are going in the ditch at least you know that your suspension is up to the task.

See you in the dirt!

Wow, those prices sound pretty reasonable. Are the shocks custom valved depending on the spring rate chosen? Also, are there any people running these for their daily drivers? Sounds like a nice choice for a suspension upgrade to the Evo

yeah actually the DMS seem to be the choice suspension for many of the WRXes.

just some food for thought...since TEIN will be brought stateside, prices should definitely drop. i HEARD (not stating facts) that the TEIN HA's would be ~$1500-1600 and the RA's ~$2000+. Don't know the prices for sure as TEIN still has to come here. But I do know that they should be a lot less expensive compared to the current value. to me the price seems somewhere in the ballpark of the DMS, but JDM.

My company builds motorsport struts / shocks for all vehicles including the EVO IV. They are rally durable and have a very large adj. range.
We offer our setups in two flavors:
rebound adj. external reservoir ~$500.00USDea.
rebound / bump ind. adj. external reservoir ~$700.00USDea.

Give me a ring or send a message for more details. Custom designs are our specialty. We also offer cockpit adj. swaybars and spherical bearing mounts.
