New Pads..Now squeeeek!!

Hey!

I just had instaled Project MU pads all the way around (street pads), and also Rotora Slotted/Cross Drilled rotors up front.... Brakes are real nice! Need to get the rotors warm before hard clamping... This was all done in one sitting.
But...

Breaks SQUEEK loud when coming to a stop. Braking harn no problem...but slow stop..EEEEEK! And only the front is squeeeking

Any suggestions? They have only been on for like 3 days. Will it go away?

JP

i have EB Blue pads that sound like that, and i just took off some Carbotech somethings that also did it..... it is annoying..... the stock pads didn't but they cost $250 to replace (just for the fronts).

so..... no....they will always squeek apparently (at least both of mine have).

Did U use the shims from the old brake pads?
I'm running same pads but mine does not make any noise.

Mine were great for a while but then they started skeaking at low speeds just like you say. I installed them using the shims, the grease and everything as per the best procedure.
Now with the MR, the stock OEM brakes are doing the same thing..... Oh well....

My Ferodo DS2500 pads do, too. They were fine for awhile but they squeak alot now. But, I think it is partly do to the colder temperatures outside, so it is harder to keep the brake temps up.

I have the same issue. Brakes only squeel when cold and with slight brake pedal pressure, otherwise they are quiet and stop very well. I got the brembo slotted rotors along with the | Endless Vita Nuova Brake Pads. Only the front gives me noise on slow stops. Oh well.

i have a stock evo year 2005.
somehow the brakes are as u guys discuss too... squeaking on low speed some times. If this is normal then i'm happy. Some said it's because of the brakes are new.

i talked to the dealer and you have to replace the shims when you replace the breaks. shims from the dealer cost $7.50 and you have to order them. I am waiting for mine to come in. i will let you know if they stop the squeek.

They lied to you and took your money for nothing. You can reuse the old shims, they are not a wear item. Just clean them, apply the anti-squeal grease and put them back in there correctly. Anyway, the new shims are not likely to cure the squealing since nobody knows why they squeal.....

I've redone my brakepads several times. Definitiely just reuse the old antisqueal shim with the right high temp lubricant. My brakes squeel when they are cold, and especially when they are cold and it is low speed slow braking, so there is not much pressure on the rotors. Like when I'm slowly pulling into a parking spot, they squeel like mad. But hey, they're some of the best brakes when you need them.

They squeal because of the pad material.....all brake pads make noise it is often at a higher frequency that we can't hear....with different pad material the pitch is lowered and the resonance can be heard...
On evo pads there are 2 shims one set is not attached to the pad the other is riveted on...you can indeed re-use the separate ones

Thanks Andrew, I stand corrected. Somebody does know why they squeal ... Anyway, my Project MU pads did squeal just as these pads in my new MR squeal, just as the brake pads in my wife's Pathfinder used to squeal.... Oh yeah, we took that Pathfinder back to the dealer several times for that problem. I also took it to a brake specialist and those guys all said "there is nothing wrong with these pads, they are not worn at all, they make noise like that sometimes" and "it's your wife's driving style, she needs to apply the brakes harder from time to time, the pads are glazed". I certainly cannot be accused of not applying my brakes hard enough from time to time .........
