Anyone know what the widest tire i can mount on a 18x8.5 rim without rolling the fenders is?

And to use up all the rubbers on the 275 tires efficently, you really need a set of 17x10 wheels. There will be more tire flex also since its taller compare to let say 255 40 17. All in all, I really don't think its worth the effort since the fastest time attack evos (HKS, Cyberevo) in Japan are running 255 40 17. Good luck!

well i have 9.5 inch wide wheels with 22 mm offset so its gonna bring the tires away from the inner wheel wells so i won't have rubbing there....also i have the machine to roll and even push out my rear wheel wells a bit. The front fender liners i am going to remove if needed and i do plan on getting 20-30mm larger front fenders shortly. The rolling diameter is only slightly higher than the stock 235 45 17 which is equal to a 265 40 17. I have a feeling it won't be all that much work to make fit....and if they are i will go with something smaller i guess.

evodave, no worry for the front. since you are running 22 offset, with a lot of neg camber, the front should clear without rubbing, the biggest problem is the rear, My friend have 35 offset and its still rub with the fender lip totally shaved off. you want a higher offset in the rear, like 38 or 40. 22 will stick out even more and give you more trouble.

Also, use your normal tires for drag-racing these tires have stiff sidewalls and probably won't heat up enough or flex to give you a benefit, they may actually hurt your 60.

I don't even think my evo has enough power to turn 275's

Can't wait to see pics when you're finished.

I run a 275/40/17 on a 19x9 +35mm offset with a 3mm spacer for clearing the front caliper.

I rub on the inner fender wells at full lock, on the rear trailing links (just enough to polish them, no visible marks on the tires) and a little bit on the rear fenders..

It's a very very tight fit. If I were to do a track day, I would recommend a smaller tire. for Autocrossing, the tire size works quite well where the rubbing issues dont' really concern me.

I might drive on the street with the big fatty tires, but I would not push it, and certainly would not try a track day where the rubbing issues could cause abnormal heating where you don't want it (like on the sidewalls)

IMHO, I don't know if your 17x9.5 +22mm offset will fit. It will certainly be close, I would watch the clearance on the rear trailing link and the front fender lip. Like others have said, you will need to run more negative camber in front and at least -1 degrees in back to clear the fender wells.

do you realize how far out the fenderwell those wheels are going to sit? even that size with that offset rubbing against the inside is going to be a problem.

Those are not 275 or even 255 tires on the black evo. But you can always go wide body like the APR kit.

no...i was referring to the 17X9.5's with 22mm offset....not the tire size. I may be swithing to a 255 40 17 after all...we will see.

im running 255-40-17's BF goodrich KD's with no problems
the rims that im using are gramlights 57s 17x8.5 +40 off set
same size on the enkies RPF1 for the track on RA1's. When i first install the rims there was no need to roll the rear fenders, i have posted pics before about it. It had a very small clearance, so just in case i had the rear fenders roll.
i have seen 275 on the same rims (kents car) but for that you need some body work, besides 275's for the street is abit too much :P

The best thread you came up with was two years old? I highly doubt that. Should have just made your own thread even though I'm sure this has been discussed already.

It's been discussed about 100 times. Seems like once a week someone asks that same question. Simple answer..use 255/40/17, 245/45/17, or 245/40/17, 235/45/17. And yes they'll all work just fine.
