Isn't that the process used in powdercoating? Meaning the material is grounded and electrostatically charged negatively while the powder is charged oposite to adhear to the metal?

I've always been told that powder-coating alloy wheels is dangerous. You hear horror stories of alloys cracking or even breaking after powercoating. Apparently, heating the alloy somehow weakens it. This isn't a problem for steel wheels.

I've only seen one thread on here where some guys wheel cracked, if the coating is done in the right temp then its fine for the wheels, but if you do a high-temp coat then you're going to have problems. Just make sure they do one of those low-temp coatings and you'll be fine, and if you're still worried just paint the rims yourself.

I think most wheels ,cast and forged can take 300.F for 30 min when cast wheels melt its way over 1000.F

electrostatic paint coating

My understanding is that no heat is involve in ELECTROSTATIC painting. We had our refrigerator done in our kitchen and no heat was invloved. Came out with a very nice smooth coating. The item to be coated is charged electrically and so is the spray gun I believe.
