brake duct kit

anyone see this?

brake duct kit from UK
(scroll down to the bottom)

expensive.... seems I will have to make my own ducting. Most parts can be bought from racers wholesale.

I wish someone here in the US would make the kit and sell it as I know I wont have much time to spend to build my own.

bp... out.

Ouch!
£323.40

Interesting idea. I don't think it is worth $600 though.

The Caterham is a blast. I am in the process of preparing it for the Targa Newfoundland and have just added a full cage as well as some other goodies.

Derek built a pretty nice setup for his OTC evo, nice write-up as well.

I didnt know Derek moved on to the EVO.... how did he do at OTC?
(edit: 5th Place - ****, Elliott, Mueller - #8 Mitsu EVO VIII... wow, that is awsome.. and with Meuller himself.)

That is a similar set up that I put on my Supra & 240sx.... the only problem is that the hose is not pointing in towards the center of the disc.. forcing the air through the veins of the disc. Which inturn makes it fairly inefficient.

I was hoping the EVO had brake heatsheilds that could be cut/shaped & used as a mounting point for the air hose to clamp to.

I am now seriously contemplating making a solid brake duct set up for the car, with fabricated metal pieces etc.... it really needs it.

BrownPop,
You and I notied exectly the same thing. If you end up making something that helps direct the air at the center of the rotor, let me know. I will buy one from you!

You guys are not alone here. I have a full 2nd set of backing plates that I plan to modify to use as a base for adding ducting. I'll be starting this project once the temprature in my garage gets above freezing.

There are backing plates on the EVO brakes, looks like Derek removed them himself.

you know what is funny....

just this last weekend I tracked the car and swapped out pads and didnt even pay attention to that.

that is great though... it will make it so much easier to mount the hose to... I'll check it out this weekend.

wow.. that guy took off his front bumper and everything.... still wondering how effective that sort of system really is. It just doesnt seem like the hose is directed in a fashion that will maximize its use.

I am also curious why no one uses a funnel for the hose.. like this:

here is good hosing:

ya, you want to find a way to direct the air right into the center of the rotor, to allow the air to pass through the vains. that UK setup is exactly what you would want for mounting to the knuckle. these other ones just have the hose pointed at the brakes which is not as effective.

A lead-in funnel and targeting the center of the hub (plus some VERY cold weather) are exactly why I've been going slow on this project. I currently have the dealer option cooling guides, and for the small plastic bits they are, they seem to make a noticable difference.

I picked up the backing plates from the dealership - I can't remember the price anymore, but the local dealer offers a sizeable discount off retail for club members on parts. I'm not going to completely eliminate the backing plates because I still want to keep some heat away from the ABS sensors.
