I just put on the Kumho MX on my EVO about a month ago for $118 each. I like them, but it ain't nothing near the A046s.

If price is a factor, it's hard to beat Kumho MX.

Current Azenis...great tire. New Azenis...waiting to see how that sorts out. Sidewalls have been softened I'm told.

Slightly used A046 Advans aren't too expensive. There seem to be plenty to go around. I just bought two sets that are sitting in my garage waiting for the snow to melt.

I think there are a few options if grip is your highest priority, but I couldn't find any that had the rock solid sidewall of the A046. In other words, anything you change to is going to sacrifice some of the super-direct steering response that your EVO came from the factory with.

How bout the new Advan Neova? Supposedly the best performance tire on the street in Japan. Should be available here soon. I have the Toya Ra1 and I have to agree with above comments. In my experience they were better than advans autocrossing but not quite as grippy on the street. Still, and awesome tire.

I went to the Toyo T-1S and did not like them they are mutch softer in the sidewall witch gives up that nice tight steering response I just went back to the A046 and now I am happy again. I cant figure why Evo owners compalin about the high price of tires when the know that the evo is only as good as the rubber that it rides on. You are only talking 2-4 hundred more than the cheepies tires come on you have a EVO get of your wallet and buy what you like.

imo bfgoodrich kdw2 seems the most comparable tires to our stock ones. i haven't compared the two tires, but from tire racks comparison, they're to closest we've got to anything... plus, they're going for a decent price in the 225/35/17 area, i believe. something like 120 a piece, whereas the stocks go about 210?

I experienced the same thing with my T-1S. Higher tire pressures significantly helped the softer sidewalls and restored much of the steering response. I still use them for my winter tires but go back to the original Advans as soon as the threat of snow is gone.

For me, nothing comes close to the performance of the Advans, check out tirerack.com and compare the Advans to other tires, it has excellent ratings except tread wear.

I disagree. I bought the KDW2's and they're not even close to stock in dry performance. The ride is more comfortable and they are good in the wet but overall you're comparing apples and oranges. I'll put stock tires back on when I get new rims. My dad just got the PS2 at costco for his STI. I wonder how they will compare to the stock potenza which is also an Advan caliber tire but in 225-45-17 size and much cheaper.

If you want the hair trigger steering wheel response, stick with Advans. Even RA1s won't match the steering response. However, the RA1s will have a lot more GRIP in a corner even though they won't feel as crisp. I found the Advans too harsh for normal driving. I'm much happier on my PS2s. Plenty of grip for the street and less jarring on bumps.
