Congrats/Awesome - gotta see pics; are they being sent to Bert's? If so, you won't mind me checking them out - would ya ?

I heard magnesium rims aren't widely used because they deteriorate in the presence of certain chemicals.

I'm building an Ultima GTR as well.... I flew out to the UK 6 months ago to go for a test drive with Ted Marlow (ultima company owner). He told me the wheels are the lightest wheels you can get without going magnesium. Those wheels are as good as your gunna find for the ultima... they are custom made. Tell your friend to build the car to the same spec as the world record setting GTR. Its the fastest street car in the world! "if it aint broke, dont fix it)

Troy,
Sorry that I haven't got back to you but I did decide to go with the magnesium Volks. They'll ship to Bert's (Union7) in about 8 to 10 weeks, feel free to check them out. If you get a chance stop buy to see the car. The Hx50 turbo is on the car and the supercharger will be installed in less than two weeks.

Thanks - I will be there to see 'em!

Also - it'll be exciting when you get this car and reveal it to the public

Ouch, 1500/wheel! phew....

Thanks alot for your answers and the links.
I am serously not worried about magnesium igniting because as you said the F1 driver slamed into a wall. He's not planning on that of course. Also if it can take the massive brake heat from the F1's it can take a road car.

KingKyle,
Your building an Ultima also! thats beautiful. How was the test drive? Do they have the 640hp engine on the demo? And how was the braking?
I also am wondering if he should modify the car from the Record Ultima's Specs. I also live by if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But every review I read about it say it has mild understeer. So I was suggesting to move up to 18x10 in the front, make them magnesium (because those OZ wheels are pretty ****ing amazing and I knew we have to go for exotic material to beat them) and then get the brakes of a Porsche 911 - carbon/ceramic to drop weight even further.

I can't really think of anything else where the Ultima GTR can be "improved". I say this with quotations becuase it is an amazing car.

Yeah i cant wait..... I didnt drive but Ted did.... (sick driver!) we passed a modified WRX STI on a twisty mountain road like it was NOTHING! I kinda got a little sick by the end but it was worth it. I think the new splitter Ultima is offering will cure some of the 80+ mph understeer. anything below 80... im guessing with a little throttle the 640bhp will help produce a little oversteer. The brakes are great..... they offer two stages of brakes "i think" and they are custom made for the Ultima. Oh I didnt drive in the 640hp car.... I was in the 450hp and i cant even imagine my soon to be 640bhp world record holding supercar! (i have lots of pics if you wanna see)

Umm...hell yes please. jeje
Hey kyle....Does the car come with underbody panels to improve aerodynamics. That would be improve on the steering reaction. If not do they offer it?

Also is the 640bhp engine aluminum block or iron? I know AmerSpeed offers aluminum blocks which would reduce the weight but may reduce the reliability and it heat tolerance (Especially if you want to later throw some nitrous!).

What is the total weight of the Ultima GTR with engine? Is it really 998kgs!

Mag wheels... drool drool drool... someone who is poor like me can only dream of the pure joy of owning a set of mag wheels. seriously tho, I do so much damage to my rims on curbs and rocks and such that I would be afraid to actualy put mag wheels on my evo. Not to mention the lawyer fees I would be paying for the homicides I would commit if ever someone kicked my tires randomly.

If I were building an Ultima GTR (my dream car, BTW!) there's only ONE wheel I would consider: Jongbloed. These guys were making magnesium wheels back in the Can-Am days. I believe they made the "OEM" wheels on the original Ford GT-40 and some Porsche race cars back in the late 1960's and early 1970's. They would be a PERFECT match for an Ultima and they offer some of their models in magnesium alloy.

Here's the link: Jongbloed Racing Wheels

As others have said, be prepared to spend a LOT of money. Maybe $1500 per wheel.
