Maybe you should have went around it. 
Don't pursue the business to pay for a something you hit that someone else knocked into the street. Just suck it up and move on. That's what insurance is for.

you could look at it like this... but if you hit someone's dog and the dog was own3d by someone and they said it was their dog they are liable... so how does that change for a rock that was placed near a busy road.... it was their rock so shouldnt they have to suck it up......
