how low for 235/40-18's?
how low for 235/40-18's?
o.k. i just ordered my set of 18x9 O.Z. Superleggaras with pirelli Pzero's and i want to lower it. just curious to know if maybe the tein S-techs would not cause me any trouble since i like the stance those springs give. oh, also i am in the process of getting the Carbontrix "gialla" replica im guessing that would be a factor. thanx again to anyone that post's some help for me
depends on the offset. With a 18x9 you should try to put on 245 series tire. I'm currently running a 18x9 wheel but the offset is 29. I really want to put a wider tire on but it will rub. i'm using a 235/40/18 tire but want to use a 245 or 255 tire.
^ I agree
For an 18x9 rim, you should probably use a 245/40/18 tire. Consider that stock is a 17x8 rim on a 235/45/17 tire.
But rubbing is also going to be greatly dependent on offset. It looks like they are +35mm off sets. That is going to be fairly close.
Interesting to note that Tire Rack does recommend 235/40/18 tires for 18x9 rims.
My setup is 235/40/18 tires with 18x8.5" , +30mm offset. I also have Tein S-Tech springs. It works out well but it's a very close fit.
If you're going springs why don't you try something a little less severe that won't derate handling like Hotchkis springs, I believe the drop is an inch all around.

im not real familiar with tire's and the size's but was getting the pirelli Pzero 235/40-18 a bad idea for my car if i plan on lowering it? i heard good things about the 235's on the forum but what exactly makes the difference from the 245's? i heard that they handle better than 245's+ but again im not knowledgable on tires. now im confused since i already placed the order yesterday. any help will be appreciated thanx, RSVIII
PZeros are an all-season tire, is it not?
This is great for daily driving and puts up well in the snow/rain however if you do any real summer driving whether it would be in the twisties, autox, or track, you will not be satisfied with these tires.
If you lower your car, stay with 235/40/18....245 is slightly wider and has a little more tread but seems consistently problematic in terms of rubbing within the fender wells.
Stay with the 235s and do your research on springs if you plan on lowering the car.

For that rim I would think a 245/35/18 would be your best bet. Go to tire rack and look at all the tire specs. I went there and looked at some of the tires and even though I was looking at all 245s they varied in width up to .4 inches. Id try to go with one of the smaller 245s becasue you might have rubbing issues.

i dont track or anything i just wanted to replace my f'd up 3 enkies and one spare donut. i was gonna buy some rota's but i figured might as well go with higher quality wheels and tires since i dont want to regret it. as far as getting the 235's i thought they looked pretty good on the BBY evo on this site. when you say the twisties do you mean they dont grip as well or they understeer?
so back to my original quest. how low? can i do S techs or should i play it conservative with hotchkiss springs? oh, and coilovers are not an option i have had issues with everycar i put them on, DONT FLAME ME FOR IT, i know there are people and ways to tune them better than anything but its not for me. thanks.
