Lug Nuts Changing Question

If I am ONLY changing the lug nuts, do I have to jack up the car/wheel/tire to get it done? Or, simply just change the nut one at the time while the car is sitting on the ground.

This question may seem stupid but I do need some input. Thx.

I would be inclined to jack it up. When on the ground, loosening a lug nut at a time may put more stress on the wheel/hub assembly or may lead to uneven tightening. It would probably be ok but it seems like you risk a lot just to save a little extra work.

There should be no problem changing them one at a time. When you pull the wheel off, you have to loosen the lugs on the ground anyways. Just pull one off, put the new one on and torque it down. I can't guarantee that you won't have a problem, but that's how I would do it.

if you're using new stock lug nuts don't worry about jacking it up. if you're using new aftermarket lugs, jack it up and do all 5 at one time. i'm saying your wheel might not like mixed lugs.

Thx for all the input. I went the lazy way and just changed them one at a time.
