Need Expert tire opinion!!

Can anyone tell me if it's worth paying $500-700 extra for a set of Yokohama Advan A028's over the Falken Azenis ST-115? Is the performance and grip worth that much more money?

Size in question is: 245/40/ZR18

I didn't include the Neova's in the question because they're only available in 235/40/ZR18 as per tireracks listing.

depends, as always, on what your requirements are. but for me, i gave the 115's a shot this last time around (been through three sets of stockers in 40k miles) and i won't go back for street tires. very pleased overall, with good grip and turn-in only marginally different even on a slightly higher sidewall than i'm used to (went to 245/45/17's on the 115's). for the money, it's been a no brainer. i don't know anything about the A028, but i can't imagine it could be a much better performer than the stockers. at that price, the equation looks the same to me.

btw- on track, i think the 115 would suffer the same fate as the stock A046- high wear rate and increasingly greasy when hot. but i haven't tried em to know for sure- i use r compounds for track days now, better bang for the buck.

These are what I'm looking into, not much more money then you looking to spend. Plus the overview ratings look extremely close to the stockers and higher in some places.

nm found it 360 tread count rating

tread counts are for sheets, not tires.

really, though, this is a whole different breed of tire. two things to consider:

1- treadwear (utog) rating is pretty much directly related to the "stickiness" of the tire. at it's simplest, it means
lower number=softer rubber=lower treadwear=more grip
higher number=harder rubber=higher treadwear=less grip

with a rating of 360, these really aren't in the same category as the stockers or the falkens, rated at 160 and 200 (i think) respectively.

2- with no solid circumferential ribs (solid ribs which encircle the whole tire), this is not a tire made primarily for responsive handling. the lateral sipes (small side to side grooves) mark this as an all season tire, made for good wet grip, maybe even light snow, but at the expense of dry grip and responsiveness.

the avon's are probably a good all-season performer, but nothing like the other two, or any other top-performing tires, for that matter.

check out a few truly phenomenal performance tires, and you'll see a common theme emerge. pay close attention to UTOG ratings (under specs) and tread patterns.

sorry i'm opening this thread up again, but i've narrowed my choice between two tires, in two different sizes:

ADVAN Neova AD07 in 255/40/18

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 in 245/40/18

The tires are going to be mounted on a set of ADVAN RS 18"x 9" (+29) GTR-Faced Wheels.

I am planning on rolling my rear fenders to compensate for the aggressive offset of the wheels. I may also be aquiring a set of Garage HRS fenders for the front, but whether or not i get them is still questionable.

Can I run the ADVAN AD07 255's without rubbing in the front or rear?

People run 255/40/17 RA-1's without rubbing. The AD07's should clear just fine. I know it works with room to spare on stock suspension, but it really depends on how your suspension is set up. It also depends on the offset of your wheels.

Spooling you won't need the front fenders just roll the back.
