How Wide Is Too Wide?

I was just wondering if a 9.5 inch wide wheel would be too wide for drag racing. I am running 18 X 8.5 right now, but I 'm looking for a more aggressive look. Will a 9.5 inch wide wheel affect my performance at the drag strip?

nothing is ever too wide. you can also get the look with the proper tire and offset. and 9.5 it all depends on what your offsets are and what tire you wanna run.

imo, you should be more worried about the overall diameter of the tire than the width, as this will have a greater effect on acceleration. Just be careful not to get too tall of a tire, for best performance stick to something around 25.3 inches or less, as that's about the overall diameter of the stock tires. For instance, a 255/40/18 tire is 26.1 inches, which would likely slow you down. You can find overall diameter information on tire manufacturer websites.

also with something like 255 40 18 you will be rubbing your fender liners which is not something that can be fixed.

What about a 17x9.5 inch wheel. Would that be suitable for drag racing?
