Replacing 1 tire on an 03 Evo

I currently had the unfortunate event of a patio screw about 4-5" in length go through my tire and into the side wall.... So no one will patch it. My question is can I replace just 1 tire? The tread is still good on my tires and since I have an 03 I do not have any ACD/LSD in the front so would this be any problem? To just get a new tire and put it up front.

I am running stock tires and plan to replace it with the same. I also may be interested in buying 1 tire off someone if there are any for sale.

Thanks

I've had to do this aswell, I got a screw in my tire and drove on it for too long and the sidewall fell apart. I just replaced the tire up front since I had alot of tread on the other three since they were fairly new. It depends how worn the other tires are..

They still have a good amount of tread... I have taken such good care of these tires.... I just love hurricanes.... and patio screws.... AWD systems have to be build to deal with real world situations.... Like not having 2 of the same exact size rolling masses on eiher side of the car.... I could see if I was using 2 different brands or 2 different sizes.... but not just a new tire and then 50-75% of a new tire on the other 3 corners.... To be honest I do not even know if this tire is shot? The screw managed to scrape it's way through the first layer of rubber on the sidewall and that is it.... Goodyear would not patch it but from any experts is the sidewall really comporised just because the rubber has been scraped off? I am sure goodyear has no idea that these tires have sidewalls like stones. Could I actually reuse this tire?

I did it for awhile and it didn't mess anything up. People will try to tell you that you might mess up your transfer case and diffs, but I've never seen anyone actually hurt them

Same dilema here..

Ended up buying 4 Yoko ES 100's. Didn't want to take a chance. Plus 1 new one cost $200+.

Still have my 3 A046's and trying to pick up another one. Still have about 6/32th left.

Dang, same damn thing happen to me today. Found screw in my front left tire. Is it ok to have a tire patched. It's not in a bad spot if you can patch our type of tire.

you will toast the center diff depending on how much tread is left on the old tires.

One option would be to shave the new tire to match the tread depth of the existing tires to prevent this from happening.

Says the guy that doesnt own the car. The real world says quite differently however. FOR INSTANCE, Subaru has 0/32 allowed variation per a direct SOA memo to tire dealers. GM has 4/32's variation. The best I could find from manufacturer sources (NOT, and I repeat NOT Internet sources) is 2/32 for EVO's. Sure tell me how the diffs dont have to work at different speeds when one tire is not the same height EVEN if its only a 1/32 of an inch. If you have any electronics (ACD or the like) it only gets worse. It is detected as wheel slip via ABS because one is moving faster than the others. Maybe you can get away with it. Hell its not my money, but to blind yourself to the possibility that it will shorten the lifespan of drivetrain components is ludicrous. I'll sell you one tire and when something does happen you know who to blame right?
