$1200 for pads and hardware? lol

Took my evo in for it's free 25K mile service today (I have free services in 5K intervals) and they tell me that I need new front and rear brakes... Then said it'd be $1200 for parts and labor.

I then ask why the rotors went bad, and he said "Oh your rotors are fine, that's not for rotors, that's just for the pads, hardware kit, and $500 in labor" bhahaha. I couldn't help but tell him to immediately finish the oil change and not to touch the brakes.

Someone please tell me how labor can be $500 for BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR TURN!

I told him I can do it myself for a little over $100 and in 2 hours....

Reason # 53,432,240 why I hate dealerships.

Same thing happend to me last week. They wanted $500 just to do my rear brakes!!! I let them finish the oil change and told them I'd give them a call on the brakes. Went online and ordered some performance rear pads for way cheaper than $500!!! I will install them myself. I think the dealer is trying to milk me for every cent. I only have 18,000 miles and they want to rape me so soon!!! $1200 is crazy!!! I rather fork out the extra money and upgrade the brakes and rotors all together. Amazing!!!

Ya it really is amazing... I think on top of the "classic dealership rape attitude" they figure that all evo owners have $$$$- which is definately not the case for me.

When he first told me the price I wanted to ask him if Jesus personally autographed them or something becuase I can't possibly see how pads could cost me that much.

I can change all the pads while in a parking lot, at night and in the rain in 40 minutes!

Actually, if you report that dealership to Mitsubishi for fraud you could possibly help the next "rapie". They are suppose to monitor the Evo service more closely.

That is ridiculous. I amplanninh on getting a two piece rotors as soon as my stock rotor wear out. I will put original Brembo brake pads though.

As per the labor, that is ridiculous, the brakes on the Evo are no mistery. Talk to Gaijin, he works in one of the Mistubishi dealers, other wise go to a well known local Phoenix shop:

Kingpin
Vividracing
Mynes performance
Dynochip
Dynocomp

Amy of the shops that I listed I know for a fact that have and have had cars that uses Brembo brakes, I am sure they could help you better than the dealer

That type of scam needs to be reported. Letting them continue to do stuff like this to unsuspecting customers who may come along behind you further damages Mitsubishi's already tarnashed reputation.

The race heritage of the Evo means very easily accessable brake pad swaps. Hell you can even bleed the brakes with the stock wheels still on the car.

damn~!

I work @ LEXUS and you all know we have High labor rates ($85-$95 an hr) etc & should because its LUXUARY.....but for a 4wheels brake job on a damn Lexus only runs about $575 ($285 per axle).

Which is still high to some but thats machined rotors and New pads w/ shim kits OEM and sometimes caliper Bolts (LS400-LS430 add = $35)

Thats Crazy though.

Aftermarket is Your friend in that situation
