Based on the replacement cost of the BBS rims ($850 is what I was quoted from the dealer here), I thought it might be a good idea to invest in some alternative rims and shed a few pounds while I was at it. I weighed each rim/tire and the average stock weight of BBS/Advan combo (1,000 miles on tires) was 43.5 - 44 lbs. The average weight of the Gram Light 57F 17x8.5 +30mm/PS2 combo is a mere 38.5 - 39 lbs.

I paid $400 each for the rims. They are forged and well worth it. Much stronger than the cheaper alternatives out there.

Checkout the link above called Forged 6061. They sell 17" wheels that weigh in around 12-13lbs maybe lighter. I'm guessing on the weight cause their 19" wheels weigh 14.5 lbs.

Are your local track guys running the NT03s or the RPF1s?
NT03's are stronger. The RPF1's tend to flex a bit under load.

and with the 8.5s they sit close enough to the caliper that this begins to be a problem... nt03s however are not lighter. however if they all just made the RIGHT size for evos :[ this wouldn't be a problem.

i WISH this wheel set a trend... one that made manufacturers wanna put out MORE sub 18 pound wheels and offer them for 800-900 a set. so we can all play with them on our ra1s. cuz just like how the ra1 is a cheap track tire we ALL now need a cheap track WHEEL to go with that tire. that means it's fat, it's cheap to replace and it's light.

how many wheels out there are really such a bargain?

when we discuss bargain wheels everyone brings up rotas and in a "proper" size they all weight more than 20 pounds. (proper means can shoe a 275 tire with trapezoidal patter, or at LEAST a 255 with a trapezoidal pattern).

volks are almost always over 1200 a set sometimes climbing to 1700 a set (and this is WITH HOOK UPS!)

enkeis are all at least 300 a wheel which translates into a similar 1200 a set price range.

advans, buddyclubs, ssr, work; don't even needa TALK about these, they're either TOO EXPENSIVE, TOO HEAVY, or TOO EXPENSIVE FOR HOW HEAVY THEY ARE.

i hate wheels... i hate freakin' thinkin' about wheels and i hate how there are no good wheels for cheap...

gramlights are like a compromise but i've had friends that have bent them... and they also have the funny size action going on.

even the fn01rc isn't the perfect compromise... it's a WEE bit too heavy... so sigh... waht do i do?

you're right.

We do need a lot more relatively reasonably priced rims that you could track with. I mean, I can't buy a set of volks and track with those, and it upsets me most of the people who buys those baby them and don't track it.

anyway, I'm still looking now. NT03 seem promising, but it doesn't fit, and only ones that might fit is the 17x8, which isn't too much. and to answer the previous question, no I haven't seen too many people run them on any cars.

i hope they either make lighter track tires (like make Ra-1's lighter) or make the rims lighter.

I would almost buy something ugly if it was cheap and light that I could replace if I mess it up on road races or doesn't mind ding it up on auto-x.

I think I might stick with stockers and look for the bbs mr rims on sale. Meanwhile, I want something that looks good for the street, so I could use that for daily driving with some cheap tires and put some hoosiers on the stockers for the race.

Thanks.

I think that is one of the only places to buy them. But do a google search of you want to find another place to buy them.

can you even fit nt03's on your evo? I thought it wasn't possible without the spacers, and I'm so not about putting spacers in.

FN01-C seems to be the way to go.

does anyone know the difference between FN01-RC and FN01-C?
