Toyo Proxes R888

Hi Guys!

I got a chance to look at the New Toyo Proxes R888 today (was around for a while now) and there look great.

There are softer, although the RA1 have the same treadwear of 100 and there also appear wider. As expected, the grip is a little more than the RA1. I will tell you that drivers would not like you driving infront of them with pebbles on the road. There reminded me of those big Motorcycle (R1) sticky tires.

For the good part, the sidewalls are a lot more stiffer

The tread depth is very good and seems more than the RA1, but the spacing is way more

Just lifting the tire feels inspiring and you start dreaming to how the car responses.

The internet pictures does not do justice, except the one above. To me, there remind me of the Bridgestone Potenza RE540S and Nitto NT-01 (Made by Toyo too)

This tire descends from the Toyo Vimoda. Not that we ever got the Vimoda in NA either but from talking with a toyo rep this tire should tear.

Nitto NT-01

I must say that the Bridgestone Potenza RE540S tops them. Off course, the RE55S would be worst (haven't seen them yet), but the RE540S is like glue. Damn sticky.Stickest tire I have seen compare to Kumho, Toyo, Hankook, Pirelli, Michelin.

Its like likeit was burn out before selling , tread live looks good, but less than the RA1.

I can see why there are difference variants to RE540S and RE55S.

It would be nice if Tire Rack could carry the Toyo line.

It would also be nice to see a comparison between the NT-01 and the R888.

From the pics, the R888 seems to have better water capability than the NT-01, but I maybe wrong. The block spacing on the NT-01 looks like that of the RA1. The R888 is about 3.5-4 cents in width

That do not seem possible. Not at all.

The tire that you have a pic of there is the VIMODE, not the VIMODA. Ashumo has a pic of the VIMODA. That is all.

Look for the undercar pic (this might be a different angle of the one that ashumo posted) that has the muffler in it. Its a slight distance shot but you get the idea of what the Toyo Vimoda looks like.

Does Robi use that tire? Maybe Nils can tell us about the wear characteristics?

I only have experience with the NT01's... to the best of my knowledge the triple 8's are not available yet.. but I have been inactive lately cause of work & personal reasons.

Robi has been testing the 888's and he LOVES them. I know, that is about as vague as i gets... but that is all I can tell you about them right now.

The NT01's worked marvelously for me last time out. Full tread NT01's were about 1-2 secs faster than shaved RA-1's on a 3 mile course. I have about 1 track day plus highway driving on them and they still look like new

The only way I've found to get my hands on the 888's is to import them from our friends across the pond.

Nils, were the RA1 times on the same size tire as the NTO1 times or was when you were running the 255 RA1's?
