I have some BFG KDW's and they are very good tires for the money. They are comparable to the Advan A046's, but not in the exact same league. For 255/35/18's I paid $177 per tire, so if you still have your stock rims I'm sure it would be a little bit cheaper.

Ended up reading ya Comment...and i also live in So-Cal and wanted tooo go too EVO meets!!! havent gotten a chance to go to a EVO meet yet... if your holding em down in torrance i dont mind driving over there.. well PM me whenevers.....

To the chap who mentioned the PS2, I have some comments about that:
Great street tire. For the price, the Neova seems more towards what the original poster was looking for.
The PS2 has a very soft sidewall, however, when it is pushed into a corner, it seems to constrict under the load, and offers TONS of grip.
In order to get around the soft sidewall, use a 245/40R17 or a 255/40R17, both fit without issue. I used all three sizes and I can say the 255 offers the best all around perforamnce. For an everyday driver, the PS2 is damn near unbeatable in the rain, I could hold onto it pretty hard.
If total max performance is what you're looking for, the RT615, Neova etc are in the category. Good luck, post your results.
