Ya when ever I get new coilovers I am thinking I'll go with the new APEX units, I have not seen that many reviews on them, but I know they use them on the APEX / Sparco EVO and that thing has done some bad stuff at the track

With how many rebuilds? Every coilover manufacturer I've ever talked to indicated their product required regular maintenance. I'm really curious how long the megans will last. I don't plan on actually getting a set, but it would be cool if they lasted as long as the the pricier setups from ohlins, dms, and KW.

yup, we're offtopic now.

The fact is that all cars are different, all driving habbits are different. You may get 20k miles out of them, although as you said they are 60 bucks, so I assume they were used, so now you must wonder a bit at least about the condition of the springs, not only the stock struts. In some way shape or fomr, springs will damage your stock struts, just a flip of the coin as to how long it will be. If you can get 20k miles out of a set of springs, good for you. I had eibachs on my talon that lasted about a month on before the struts went, maybe 1000 miles going to school and work, no track days, etc.
You will find both good and bad answers to your question, relating to damage, number of miles, etc. But if you slap these on your car and get 1000 miles and break something, you will be spending the money anyway. Better to save and do it right the first time. I'm all about getting cheap parts, but just because its a good deal, doesnt mean its a good idea.

Off topic, but arent the Megan coil overs made by apexi, or in the same factory or something, thought i read that on here.

Although it is indeed off topic, I wanted to clarify this because I am tired of hearing people (not necessarily you voodoo) say things like "Apexi are made in the same factory as Megan, they're just overpriced" etc. and the associated misleading implications. Yes and no. From what I understand the Megan, Ksport, D2, Helix, etc. are all manufactured in the same Taiwanese Bor Chuan factory, who sells their own "brand" of BC Racing coilovers as well. CERTAIN price-point models for the US market by A'pexi (the EXV), (and Greddy too I think) are manufactured in this factory. THIS DOES NOT MEAN ALL APEXI coilovers are made in the same factory as Megan or vice versa. Not everyone manufactures every single piece of every part in their own facilities, this is true, but not necessarily bad. If they did though, I have a feeling we'd be hard pressed for height and rebound adjustable coilovers that cost around $1k.

I have the S-Techs and unfortunately they were already on the car when I bought it with 26k miles on it. I have 37k miles now and I drve the **** out of my car in almost every possible condition. Either the struts are going, or I am just really annoyed by the mismatching of the spring and damper, but they don't feel ideal at all. I bought stock springs today, I just hope it's not too late to squeeze a bit more life out of my stock struts until I can get coilovers.

i have the tein s-techs and i agree with everyone else on here that says they are garbage. i installed them at 41k and about 13k later my front strut took a shat, other than all the noise your struts make and another way to know if they are blown is odd tire wear, or your tire will cup. however the back i havn't noticed a change.

So basically i'm wondering if people can post up some results if you've actually blown the stock shocks/struts or know somone who has because of using springs. Also how many miles did they get on the springs untill they blew? How much does it cost to repair? This also doesn't just have to do with Teins, all springs count.

type:s-techs
damage: blown shocks
miles: 24k
repair cost: $900 (cost of megan coilovers)

the drop looks good and its a good cheap mod. just know that down the road your shocks will go out.

I put the S-Tech Tein lowering springs on my car and over a period of time (10,000 Miles) I blew out my passenger side strut causing my tire to rub on the inside of my fender well when cornering. It beleive that it would have been just a matter of time before the driver side went out. Long story short I went with a full coil over set up through Tein and had to replace the wheel well liner. Aprox. 1400-1500 dollars. In the end it was well worth the money for the coil overs.

I have Teins on my 05 MR. I put them on at 200 miles. I am now at 16,000 with a blown left front strut. But, I have had a lot of mountain drives, and a lot of track time on them. I agree that the ride sucks, and the car sits to low. I don't have a repair bill yet. I just found out about it a few minutes ago.

I have had my tein s on my car for 2 years now and the shocks still feel very strong havent experienced any wear on them yet. But I know they will eventually go because they werent designed to be alterd in ride height but oh well.. Its like any other part they will all eventually wear out.

Just put Enduro-tech coilovers on. What a huge difference from the Tein springs. Cost of repair was $1600. Coilovers and a alignment.
