Teins causing shocks to go out?

I've been reading up about Teins and all this, I constantly see people saying how bad springs are for the shocks/struts and pretty much making it sound like everything is going to blow up. But from search I haven't been able to find any threads with people actually having shocks/struts blown from springs.

So basically i'm wondering if people can post up some results if you've actually blown the stock shocks/struts or know somone who has because of using springs. Also how many miles did they get on the springs untill they blew? How much does it cost to repair? This also doesn't just have to do with Teins, all springs count.

Type of spring:
Damage caused:
Miles on springs:
Repair cost:

Tein springs drop is too low imo, which hurts the shocks faster than other springs. If you want your shocks to last get springs that have a a greater spring rate than stock and doesn't drop the car too low. Tanabe springs are one of the best out there

Ok well not to sound rude, but I don't care about opinions on the drops of different springs. I just want to know if anyone has actually had any REAL damage to their suspension due to springs.

It is simple, Teins are some of the worst springs out there because they have a soft spring rate; therefore weakening performance, shortening shock life, but giving better ride quality (if you bought an evo for its ride quality please sell it). Also Teins are very low, which wouldn't nessesarily be such an issue if they didn't have such soft spring rates.

So all it comes down to is low spring rate + low ride height = blown shocks.

Do you know the mileage of when you put the springs on?

Yes people have actually had damage. He was telling you why. Thinking logicaly is way easier then find out first hand.

i dont have springs on my evo but i have blown out the suspension on my mustang from the drop being too low, fact the shock is made for a stock travel and if you cant adjust the travel so if you drop it too low it is not operating under the specs of the shocks which will either blow them or cause them to wear faster

I can understand that, but if I can drop my car for $60 and still get 28k+ miles on the shocks/struts, than that seems worth it to me. By the time 28k+ miles goes by, i'll have the funds for some real coilovers.

Most people don't buy springs for suspension enhancement, they just want to drop their car for cheap.

So, no, it's safe to say the shocks were in perfectly good shape when the springs were installed.

Not just TEINS, but ANY aftermarket springs that alter your OEM struts WILL make them wear out faster....it could last for thousands & thousands of miles, or it could last within a few hours...

Note that a spring can also overpower the working attitude of a given strut/shock resulting in premature valve/shim ware/tare.

Ok, I understand that, but his post was similar to all of the other threads. I mainly started this thread to get information like superhatch posted.

So you want to know if people have blown their shocks, but don't care about how it happens and how to prevent it. Ok

Also, I drove it 28k miles with the Tein springs, to be honest with you, the last 5-10k miles on them the dampers were hurting.
